Today we’d like to introduce you to Marie-Laure Kosian Kosian
Hi Marie-Laure Kosian, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I grew up in a small town near the Sancerre region of France.
I developed my appreciation for sophisticated design while working in Luxury Hotels throughout Europe . After working in London, Monte Carlo and Paris,
I moved to New York City. I enrolled in Parsons School of Design in 1991. After receiving my interior design degree, I founded my firm ML Design.
ML design has been commissioned by clients in a wide range of locations including: New York City, Westchester County, Greenwich, New Canaan, Rhode Island, France, London and Costa Rica.
While continuing to take on a wide range of projects, since relocating to Charleston South Carolina in 2003, I have taken on many local projects on Brays Island, Kiawah Island, Mount Pleasant, Ilse of Palms and downtown Charleston.
ML Design specializes in residential design including new construction, additions, renovations, and historic homes.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
I always wanted to be in the design world as a child but did not have the opportunity to go to the school of my choice when I was in high school. My dream school was “l’ecole du Louvre ” in Paris.
Instead I moved to London to learn English and study hotel management. It was only when I moved to New York City that I decided to change careers and enter the interior design program at Parsons School of Design. My back ground in hotel management has been helpful in running my interior design business.
Working at the Berkeley Hotel In London and the Loews in Monte Carlo with the most upscale guests, taught me to be organized and very detailed oriented.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
My design style is timeless with an European flair. I have the training and the capacity to design interiors of any style, from French to English to Mid Century Modern. I listen to my clients before starting any project to assess their wants, needs and desires. After the initial consultation, I am able to present a cohesive design plan including color palates, furniture, window treatments, lighting and accessories including art work.
My clients value my ability to stick to the budget and the timeline. I manage the project from start to finish efficiently. As a result I have many repeat clients including one client that I have worked on five projects over the past twenty years. Also, I have received many referrals from satisfied clients.
Alright so before we go can you talk to us a bit about how people can work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
Over the past twenty five years I have developed great working relationships with architects, artisans from faux finishers, cabinet makers, wall paper hangers, seamstresses and the like. I have a wide network of trusted suppliers of furniture, fixtures, accessories. I am constantly searching for new and unique items. For example this past week I found a textile hand made in Uzbekistan that I plan to use in an upcoming project.
I treat my suppliers and trades people with respect and in return they “go the extra mile” for me.
