Daily Inspiration: Meet Lisa Marie Beaty

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Marie Beaty.

Hi Lisa Marie, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
Both Joe and I are lovers of water and sun. Both of us have the astrological sign Cancer – (the Crab), and where do you find crabs? At the beach. So, it was very fitting that we both met in South Carolina.

Joe is originally from Clayton, Alabama, southern to the core. He can make a mean cornbread. Lisa is originally from Scranton, Pennsylvania, PA Dutch. When we moved to North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, our first house purchase was a triplex. We were working full time, out of town, Joe was 2 hours south, and Lisa 2 hours north. Our housing was provided. Our goal was to stay at our work homes for the week and come home on the weekend to enjoy the beach.

Since we’d never managed property, we did some research and found a management company based in North Myrtle Beach. We were able to continue to work and have someone else manage the house for us.

Our first booking with this management company quickly became disastrous. Absolute nightmare.

Our neighbors across the street contacted us to tell us there was a party going on at our 3 bedroom house, over 100 people, the road blocked off, Ubers were bringing more guests and leaving, loud music, drug activity, fighting in the streets, police attempting to get it under control. At this time of night, we were not able to do anything except possibly get ourselves killed, so we decided to wait till morning.

When we went into our property, it was destroyed! Feces on wall, smell of drugs, floors were sticky from beverages, chandelier out of the ceiling, all furniture was moved and dirty, complete disaster. I won’t bore you with the rest of that story, but I will tell you that Joe and I decided to manage our business ourselves.

And so began J and L Ventures DBA North Myrtle Beach Vacation Rentals.

Joe is a number and spreadsheet geek, so he went to work with rates in the area to establish how to price our property. I started to list the property on websites, Airbnb, VRBO, learning how to sync the properties together, update all amenities, cleaning the properties, and all this while we continued to work 2 hours away from our property.

Joe and I always had a pet. Our first pet was Sampson, a male Yorkipoo, only 10lbs. We were fortunate to be able to take him to our work home with us and on the job. Since we were able to do this, we wanted others to have the same opportunity when they were on vacation. We quickly learned how appreciative others were to be allowed to have their fur babies.

Unfortunately, in 2021, Sampson passed away, leaving a forever hole in our hearts. On 10/11/2022, we introduced a new member to our family, Captain Morgan Beaty. Captain can be seen in many of our pictures. He is a mini Aussipoo. 2024 Stormy was introduced to our family, yes were crazy dog lovers, (2) aussiepoos that completely took over our lives.

Since we purchased our first property, we’ve grown to the point where our business is managed solely by Joe and me. We oversee all aspects of our business and hold ourselves accountable for all actions taken place when families come to us for a vacation.

When you vacation at one of our properties, if you have difficulty getting into the property for any reason, we’re only minutes away. If you need to know a great Italian restaurant in the area, we’ll steer you to our favorites. We have a guidebook in all units of our favorites.

Most often, we attempt to greet our guests sometime during their vacation. We’ve had the opportunity to meet so many great families who continue to trust in us to come back year after year.

We allow our guests to make payments monthly or as they can pay. This allows for all to be able to afford the little slice of heaven we call home, in North Myrtle Beach, SC.

Today, with the help of our amazing guests/families, we’ve grown to owning 11 properties, and in addition, we manage 7 other properties. We will never allow our properties or our managed properties to be taken advantage of like we were in the very beginning. This is our passion, and we continue to strive to educate ourselves on how to be the best we can be.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
One of the biggest obstacles is that the guest thinks the experience is never good enough. We work extremely hard to ensure all provisions are in place to make your visit a 5-star experience; however, unforeseen circumstances can occur. When this happens, guests need to be forgiving and understanding.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
Property management never stops—we’re on call 24/7. If a guest arrives at 11 p.m. and has trouble getting into a property, it’s our number they call, not an answering service. You’ll always reach a live person. Either Joe or I will walk you through the process of getting inside, and if that doesn’t work, we’ll drive over and get you in—guaranteed. We’ve had guests from other property management companies call us, saying the place they booked looked nothing like the pictures, and they needed somewhere to stay. We work quickly to find them a property ASAP. Our guests often say our properties look even better than the photos—because I take all the pictures myself, with no filters or fluff. Just the real thing.

Any big plans?
Our future plans are still undecided. We love our community, Windy Hill, and enjoy taking part in events and fundraisers we’re passionate about. We know we need to slow down, as we have a glam baby in PA we like to visit every month to watch her grow. Once she gets older, we’ll want to visit more often, and that will definitely influence the direction of our business.
