Today we’d like to introduce you to Kristie Spino.
Hi Kristie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
In 2007 my father was building a design center in Fletcher, NC and wanted a lighting showroom in the design center. After he exhausted all other means he reached out to me and my husband and asked if we would be interested. I was a Registered Nurse and he was a locksmith living in Michigan. We did some research and moved our family to Western North Carolina to start this venture. We trained with the American Lighting Association and utilized our vendors training to the maximum extent. We were growing and decided to branch out and purchased the lovely Silver Fox Gallery and Interiors on Main Street in Hendersonville, NC. The two stores complimented each other in their offerings and allowed us to offer our clients more. In 2018, we inherited American Eagle Locksmith from my step father. During covid we doubled as a business in volume and decided to expand a combination of Christie’s Lighting and Silver Fox Gallery and Interiors to Greenville as Christie’s Lighting & Design. Over the years we have been successful in building a great team of interior designers, lighting consultants and managerial staff. Our success lies in our core values and the quality and customer care that we extend to our clients.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
The road has been a challenge as it should be expected in any business. We opened during 2008 when the housing market crashed but we had no where to go but up. We have been creative in how we have handled many of life’s curve balls. During Covid we had the challenge of the supply chain slowing down and then our business was increasing which was a very big surprise to us that we were not prepared for. We survived Hurricane Helene when many in our area did not. We have been working with the Home Builders Association and received many donations of lighting and other items that we have in storage and have been donating to the organizations that are rebuilding. Just recently tariffs are our newest challenge. We will be creative and align ourselves with suppliers that are made in the USA and still offer our clients items that are within their projects budget.
Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We offer lighting, home accessories, art work, furniture, cabinet and door hardware, an assortment of plumbing and much more. What sets us apart from others is that we have designers on staff that assist the clients with selections. We do complementary appointments in store and we offer in home appointments for a fee. Our designers know how to make sure the clients are getting the proper lighting for the space. They know what is on trend and will be the best function for the space. Training is key. We train on a regular basis so that our staff understands the products we have to offer and how to make it work best in their space.
So maybe we end on discussing what matters most to you and why?
What matters most to me is that our clients love their home once the project is complete. We want them to enjoy their experience so much that they return to us for future projects and tell their neighbors and friends about us.
