Daily Inspiration: Meet Julia Marchiano

Today we’d like to introduce you to Julia Marchiano

Hi Julia, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’m originally from New Jersey, but I moved to the South to attend the University of Tennessee, where I studied public relations. That’s when I realized how much I loved both living in the South and working in the marketing world. During college, I interned in digital marketing while also doing freelance photography for fun.

After graduating, I worked in the fashion industry for brands like Tommy Hilfiger, DKNY, and Calvin Klein. Eventually, I transitioned into a role at a startup menswear brand, where I managed every aspect of marketing. At the same time, I took on a part-time role as an influencer manager, overseeing contracts between large brands and content creators.

After some time, I moved to Charleston, but I struggled to find a job. That downtime gave me the opportunity to focus on my own Instagram, where I experimented with and refined my social media skills. I started sharing content about my local experiences, which led to connections with small businesses in the area. From there, I was able to turn my passion into a business, offering freelance social media management—and that’s how I got to where I am today.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Not at all! Working in the fashion industry in NYC definitely toughened me up. It was a real Devil Wears Prada experience—some of my bosses were just like that. As tough as it was, I’m actually grateful for it. It made me realize how resilient I am, and some of their harsh comments only motivated me to prove them wrong. I’ll never forget when one boss told me that my ‘little silly videos’ wouldn’t get me anywhere. Well, those ‘silly’ videos have now led to incredible opportunities, and I genuinely love what I do.

Another big challenge was struggling to find work for nearly a year. If there was a job opening, I was applying. It was scary and discouraging, and at times, I felt like I might never land a job again. But in hindsight, that period was a blessing in disguise. It pushed me toward freelancing, which has given me so much flexibility and creative freedom. Looking back, I wouldn’t change a thing.

Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
I’m a Social Media Manager specializing in organic growth. I offer a range of services, from full social media management to video creation, strategy development, and photography. I love bringing a business’s vision to life and showcasing what makes them unique through creative content.

Beyond social media management, I think I’m most known for my film photography, where I capture moments from my daily life. I’ve always been passionate about photography—both film and digital—and anything related to cameras.

One of my favorite aspects of my work is content strategy. I love when clients come to me feeling overwhelmed by social media, and I get to help simplify it for them. That lightbulb moment when they realize it doesn’t have to be complicated is the best. And of course, seeing their numbers grow and watching their community thrive is so rewarding!

What matters most to you?
Professionally, what matters most to me is that my clients feel seen and understood. I genuinely love the people I work with, and it’s important to me that they know how much I value them. I put so much into my work, so seeing their businesses grow and knowing I played a part in that means everything.

Personally, my friends and family are what matter most. They’ve supported me through every step of my journey, even when things weren’t easy. Having a strong support system has made the tough moments so much more manageable. Honestly, there have been times when they believed in me more than I believed in myself, and that kind of support has been invaluable in getting me to where I am today.
