Today we’d like to introduce you to Jocelyn Jones.
Hi Jocelyn, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
My business was born ten years ago from a ‘do better’ challenge from my husband after a terrible experience a photographer. I combined my background in systems with my creative passion to build a photography brand rooted in total professionalism.
My journey over the last decade has been one of Battle-Tested Growth. I’ve weathered opening a studio, a pandemic, and failed partnerships to build Jocelyn Janel Portraits into a brand that clients fly in from New Jersey to experience. As a posing coach and personal ‘hype woman,’ I capture forever memories for families and high-end branding for business owners.
Beyond the lens, my heart is in community and mentorship. Ten years later, I’m still here—making magic, preserving legacies, and helping other entrepreneurs protect their peace and run their race.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Not at all—it’s been a road paved with grit, which is why I describe my path as Battle-Tested Growth.
When you build a business from the ground up, the struggle is real. I had to learn how to transition from a self-taught creative to a sustainable business owner. Along the way, I faced the intense highs and lows of opening a physical studio, navigating through a global pandemic, and dealing with the hard, personal lessons that come from failed business partnerships.
There were times when burnout was knocking on the door, and I had to learn the hard way to choose Clarity over Overhead and Peace over Burnout.
Every single struggle forced me to refine my systems, and fight for my vision. I’m grateful for those battles, though—they didn’t break me; they built the wisdom I use today to mentor other entrepreneurs through their own storms.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m the founder of Jocelyn Janel Portraits, a luxury portrait and branding photography studio celebrating ten years in business, and Jocelyn Janel Co., where I consult and mentor entrepreneurs on building sustainable, systems-driven businesses. Through both brands, my mission is to help people show up confidently—whether in front of the camera or as leaders in their businesses.
I’m known for creating an elevated, confidence-building experience. As a photographer, posing coach, and “hype woman,” I help clients feel seen, celebrated, and empowered. As a consultant, I help entrepreneurs streamline their businesses so they can protect their peace and focus on what matters most.
What I’m most proud of is building businesses rooted in professionalism, trust, and community. Whether clients travel across the country for a portrait session or entrepreneurs seek my guidance, my goal is always the same: to create meaningful transformation and lasting impact.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
The most important lesson I’ve learned is that success isn’t about doing everything—it’s about building something that aligns with your values and can stand the test of time. Over the past ten years, I’ve learned that resilience, adaptability, and consistency matter far more than chasing perfection.
