Today we’d like to introduce you to Jill Shortreed. Them and their team share their story with us below:
Over the years, Charleston Balloon Company has had many faces and names. What started as a small, home-based party planning business (Celebrated Times), was the dream of a mother who loved throwing birthday parties for her children and family.
After moving into a small storefront along the beachside of New Jersey Shore and becoming introduced to the world of balloons by Linda Bruce from Pioneer, they expanded not once, but twice to fulfill the desire for balloons at high profile events. We quickly became a destination party store for local celebrities, private events, and corporate decor.
Following the events of September 2011 and her husband’s job transfer to South Carolina, Jill dismantled the business and began again with retail and party rentals. After a hard business evaluation, it was discovered that a retail party store was not nearly as profitable as balloons were. Since 2010, we have made the switch and have been growing ever since.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your work?
Charleston Balloon Company is my 6th child. It is my pride and joy as being known for being one of the largest names in the balloon industry. We are considered the largest retail balloon store in North America and we live up to the name.
We can create anything from a simple red balloon up to a custom massive design to fill your next event with the joy of balloons.
How do you think about luck?
Business is a mixture of good and bad luck. You must take the opportunities that present themselves and run with them, but you also need to take your failures and learn from them by fixing your mistakes. This business has seen many phases and still has many more to come.
