Today we’d like to introduce you to Frank Raybuck
Hi Frank, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have always had a curious streak about me. Even as a child I wanted to know why things did what they did and how they worked. I dissected everything in my mind from the way a car drove, to how a movie was made. This has not changed. I have worked in many professions to explore the “how and why” that has fueled my passion. This has pushed me into the film industry which has soothed my soul as I feel I have found my place in this world. I turn words on paper into magical visual experiences for viewers to step out of reality and into the minds of artists and creators. This has been my “Bold Journey” if you will?
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
I have never walked the beaten path. A smooth road has always bored me. If I found myself doing something boring or mundane, I steered myself off of the main road onto the rockiest most unknown road I could find. I feel that the only way to really challenge myself is to explore the unknown. By doing so, I have found myself in tough situations that I had to push through. This is where you will learn and grow the most in life.
When I first started filmmaking, I had a cellphone and a vision. I made stuff that myself and everyone else would consider atrocious. I struggled seeing my expectation verses the reality of what I made. This was “the learning curve”. It was a hard road, but I know what I want to see and how to get it now. That is how you learn!
As as independent filmmaker, the most difficult challenge is getting the funding to create your films. I have so many projects that are ready to shoot, but may never see the screen due to a lack of private investors. If you are an investor and would like to see any of our projects, please reach out to raybuckproductions@yahoo.com and we will get back to you with details and pitch decks.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I do not hold myself to any one genre or profession. There is too much in the world to learn and enjoy. I have chosen to pursue filmmaking as a fulltime career. I have made commercials, music videos, and films of different genres. I have won awards for the films including “Best Director” on my latest film The Twin Minder.
My personal life is the same as my professional. I create, I dream, and I explore. I have one chance at this life and I do not want to waste a drop of it. My wife and I do everything we can that brings us the happiness and joy that this life can give. I am so proud of that!
The only difference I see in myself than many others is that I will not stop. I keep going and trying to grow. So many people get to a point and stop. When I get to a stop I will find something new to learn.
What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
There is nothing more satisfying to me than seeing a plan come together. In film, everything is a collaboration of team effort. When I am directing a film, it is such and impressive thing to see everyone’s talent at work. I am very lucky to have worked with so many talented people in the Charleston SC area.
One think that has always bothered me is when someone says that they will do something and then doesn’t follow through. I am a person that everyone knows that they can count on in my personal and professional life. When I tell a Casting Director that I will have my audition over by 9:00pm they have it at 8:45pm. I live by a quote that one of my friends used to say. “If you are on time, you are already 15 minutes late.”
