Today we’d like to introduce you to Emily Sage
Emily, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
Emily Sage is an award-winning Independent Songwriter, Producer, Composer, and Sound Artist whose work blends elements of jazz, soul, and cinema. Her romantic songwriting style draws heavily from her experiences growing up in Portugal, where she first began to explore her artistic identity.
Emily Sage studied Songwriting and Music Business at Belmont University in Nashville, TN. Looking for a space to build her career and develop her vision, Emily Sage moved to Charlotte, NC. She started an intimate concert series called CLT Loft Sessions in the summer of 2018 so that she could curate the full experience of her concerts. She invited local independent artists to perform at those concerts as well and after the success of the first Loft Session, every event since has sold out.
Sage’s music has reached audiences across a diverse array of platforms, from TV and film to commercials and immersive art installations, both in the U.S. and abroad. Named Critic’s Pick Best Singer/Songwriter of 2019 in QC Nerve’s “Best in The Nest,” she has garnered recognition for her unique sound and creative versatility. Her single “Lumiére” (2021) soared to #17 on the Spotify Jazz Charts in 2022, marking her rising influence on the global stage. Recently, Sage has expanded her artistry into the world of cinema, contributing as a composer with song placements and scoring for award-winning shorts and feature films. She also explores the realm of soundscapes, crafting scores for art installations. In 2023, she released the documentary “Sounds of Serenity Garden,” which showcases her innovative approach to creating immersive sound art installations.
Through her work, Emily Sage strives to create meaningful connections by exploring the beauty and complexity of life, using sound as a medium to invite deeper engagement with oneself and the world. Her music is available on all major streaming platforms, including iTunes, Spotify, and YouTube.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It’s never a smooth road if you’re going off the beaten path, but that is how I prefer it. Much of my career has been creating the spaces I want to be in or creating opportunities for myself to showcase what I can do. Opportunities aren’t always given to you and sometimes you must do your best to use the resources you have to create the opportunities you wish you had.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a sound artist seeking immersive sonic experiences that invite listeners to engage with music in new and unconventional ways. I specialize in writing emotive and lullaby-like songs and exploring the boundaries of how music is experienced and expressed. I enjoy blending traditional songwriting with soundscape design, poetry, and visual arts. I see every musical project as its own world, a balance between composition and discovery, where natural sounds like wind, waves, and human voices merge with programmed instruments to create something that feels both human and innovative.
What sets me apart is my commitment to using music as a means for deeper connection and expression. I am most proud of my ability to craft unique, experiential narratives that invite people to explore their emotions—vulnerability, joy, grief, peace, and loss—and to connect more profoundly with themselves and the world around them.
If you would like to see some new work, you can find two of my most recent projects on Youtube. Sounds of Serenity Garden is a beautiful mini documentary directed by Chris Lomartire that explores the process and meaning behind my art installation, Sounds of Serenity Garden. Recently I also did a session with Home Movies Music Session by The Kovasckitz Brothers, which is a series of at-home performances shot on VHS tape created to capture the intimacy and nostalgia of music making.
Any big plans?
My future plans involve continuing to push the boundaries of how music and sound are experienced. I aim to create more immersive, multi-sensory soundscapes that invite deeper emotional engagement and exploration from my audience. This means experimenting and expanding my work into new interdisciplinary projects that blend music with other art forms, such as visual arts, theater, or interactive installations, to craft unique, experiential narratives.
I am dedicated to making a name for myself as a respected songwriter and producer, collaborating with other artists to create meaningful, cross-genre work that challenges conventional ideas about music and art.
