Daily Inspiration: Meet Destiny Hamilton

Today we’d like to introduce you to Destiny Hamilton

Hi Destiny, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
From a young age, I found myself drawn to both sides of the camera, whether I was capturing moments or being a model of the moment. I seemed to have a natural eye for composition, light, and the subtle details that bring a photo to life, even before I fully understood the technical aspects.

It wasn’t until my sophomore year at Lander University that I took my passion to the next level. My father gifted me my first DSLR camera in 2022, which marked a turning point. This camera wasn’t just a tool—it became an opportunity into a deeper world of creativity. Around that same time, I started my minor in photography, diving into formal techniques and learning the art with intention. Since then, I’ve been building my skills and pushing my creative boundaries with the encouragement of my photography professor, Jon Holloway.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
My path in photography has had its ups and downs. Being somewhat reserved and naturally shy, networking has been a real challenge for me. While I find a lot of joy in capturing people and connections through my lens, putting myself out there, promoting my work, and building connection has taken a lot of courage. I’m still learning to push past those comfort zones.

There was definitely a learning curve when I first started using a DSLR. I had a natural eye, but understanding the technical aspects—like mastering manual mode, lighting in different environments, and developing my unique style—took time and patience. Balancing school, my other interests, and my work in photography hasn’t always been easy. I’m passionate about capturing human connection, and sometimes the challenge has been finding opportunities that allow me to practice and grow.

As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
My work is all about bringing energy and vibrancy to each photograph. I love creating images that make people feel confident and empowered, transforming anyone into feeling like a model. Whether I’m working with experienced models or individuals who might feel camera-shy, my goal is to capture them at their best, highlighting their personality and unique presence

I specialize in portrait photography and one of the things I’m most proud of is the way my clients feel comfortable and seen in front of my camera. As someone who’s naturally reserved, I think I bring a gentle approach to my work, creating a safe space where people feel they can be themselves. I’m told that my attention to detail and instinct for composition set my work apart

What matters most to you? Why?
What matters most to me is helping people feel seen, confident, and valued. There’s something so rewarding about capturing a person’s spirit and showing them how incredible they truly are, even if they may not always see it themselves.
