Daily Inspiration: Meet Buren Martin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Buren Martin.

Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I grew up in Inman…many, many years ago… 🙂
After a long career in professional theatre, I decided to relocate in Inman, after buying the old Inman Theatre building. My family and I (All theatre people) went to work restoring the old building.. After two years we began a children’s theatre program. It was not to be a showcase for the “most talented’ by way of audition, but a place where any young person, aged 7 too 18 might simply sign up to be in a play… and learn theatre along the way. We take 30 young people, first come first served, into one week camps. At the end of the week we produce the show… 20 weeks, each year. These shows range from fairy tale musicals (Usually ages 7 to 13), to Broadway Jr shows (Example: Mean Girls, Newsies)… To Shakespeare. (Ages 10 to 18). After eight years, our camps are always full, and many times, our performances sell out. We are very proud of our student actors. Some have gone on to major in theatre in college. Most, of course, follow different life arcs. No matter which way they go, we hope to have been a contributing factor in their language, speech, and overall self confidence.
We are also grateful to those citizens in Inman and the surrounding communities for their support during these past years.
