Today we’d like to introduce you to Barbie Brooks.
Hi Barbie, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Hi I’m Barbie Brooks, the creative force behind Barbies Little Shop of Art, a whimsical and welcoming small business located in Myrtle Beach, SC. With a heart full of color and a passion for creativity, I have built a business with a magical blend of face painting, fairy hair, a variety of body art options, custom artwork and private art lessons for all ages. I pride myself on being apart of bringing art to my community. Not only do I own my own business but I also help others tap into their own creativty by leading classes for all ages at Studio 4319 art playground. My journey started early in life. I fell in love with art and never looked back. My life long passion for art lead me to earn a graphic design degree at The Art Institute of Atlanta. Beyond my artistic endeavors, I am a proud wife of 16 years and loving mom of two- a son and daughter-who inspire me everyday.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
It definitely hasn’t always been a smooth road. After years of being a homeschooling stay at home mom, I had to find myself again and figure out how to turn my passion of Art into a career. It took 2 years but one day I found an amazing art studio (Studio4319) that kick started my art career journey. Two years later I started Barbies Little Shop of Art. Here we are 3 years later, going strong and continously growing.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am an eclectic artist. I am one of those people that can create anything they’d like. I love to experiment so I am constantly trying new mediums and techniques. My personal style of art could best be classified as surrealism. I absolutely love creating optical illusions and 3D artwork. I am extremely proud of my sand worm halloween sculpture from last year. I would say what sets my art apart from others is my lack of fear. I am not afraid to experiment, to continue when most people would stop, to ask why not….
