Daily Inspiration: Meet Alex Luhring

Today we’d like to introduce you to Alex Luhring.

Hi Alex, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
My career started right out of my undergraduate with becoming a Strength and Conditioning Professional. I landed at a large high school in Minneapolis, training 400 student athletes in a 1200 sq ft weight room. I enjoyed getting to work my craft of mentoring and training. I then wanted to get back to coaching in the college athletic realm, so I applied for over 100 graduate assistant positions across the country. I was given the shot to complete my masters at the University of Arkansas and be in charge of the Women’s Track and Field team, while completing my masters in Sport Management. And being set in charge of some of the fastest humans on the planet at the current time. As I finished my masters my wife was preparing to give birth to our first daughter Winnie. I finished my masters and was on the hunt for a full time job in coaching. Which lead to me being a stay at home dad with our daughter for 8 months. This is where my creativity was born and what I like to say was the start of me turning myself into an artist and film maker. While home with my daughter I needed a way to network within the strength and conditioning field and find myself a job. So I started an instagram account with the handle name – @thenannystrengthcoach. I was still working out myself in the weight rooms in Arkansas and it just looked a little different – in between sets of squatting and bench pressing I was changing diapers and playing with my daughter. I started making content of this and learned a lot of technique and design elements with in marketing and film making. I eventually did find my next coaching job at Southern Utah University, then on to the University of Minnesota, University of Tennessee Chattanooga, and finishing my coaching career at the University of Central Florida. (Trust me I am getting to what I currently do lol). I then wanted out of coaching due to how much time I spent away from my wife and children. So I moved to Columbia, SC to work for good friends and company Sorinex Exercise Equipment. I was their Vendor Relations Manager but they also liked how I ran my personal social media and that I liked taking pictures and videos in a creative fashion. I worked for them for 3 years until I left to take a risk working solely in Marketing for a start up company. I worked with them for a year being in charge of their social media and email marketing. During that time I had started my LLC – Thistle In Frame. I was doing side jobs for those that found me or asked if I would make social media content for them. Once my time came to an end with the start up company I needed another full time job to support my family. Would I go back to coaching, find another random career field to try my hand at? My amazing wife encouraged me to take my own business and bet on myself. So for the past 3 years I have been running my own business where I work with brands creating marketing campaigns, shooting content, and capturing the essence of brand in photos and video. I hadn’t realized until more recently that my time as a stay at home dad aka The Nanny Strength coach was the start of me finding my passion for creating photos and videos that told a story.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not been a super smooth road. Building a business and doing it all on my own has had its long days, enduring edits, and expensive camera equipment. But I get to create my way, and be with my family.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I create content for brands that want to make a statement with who they are. I offer services of being on retainer consulting with their marketing, creating content for their social media and websites and telling the stories of brands. I specialize in pulling out emotion for brands to tell their brand story and aid in solidifying their brand tone through pictures, video and creative marketing strategy.

What’s next?
I have plans to continue to grow my company and open the doors for others within the content creation and marketing field.
