Conversations with Tammie Price

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tammie Price.

Hi Tammie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
My journey has been marked by unexpected twists and turns, but it’s in those biggest challenges and some great hurts that I’ve found the greatest opportunities for growth and service. As a young woman, I faced challenges that I never thought I’d overcome. I got pregnant out of wedlock, navigated a difficult divorce, and became a single mom. But through those struggles, I found my calling.

In 2001, I started A Place for Us Ministries, which began as a safe haven for unwed mothers. Over the years, the ministry grew, and we were able to build a 3200 square foot debt-free home for these women. We expanded our outreach to help many young women with other life controlling issues. The Alcoves, where shopping leads to hope was established as a 10,000 sq ft mini mall that hosts upscale boutiques and businesses, with proceeds supporting our ministries. The store was awarded best gift shop for 15 years. Within The Alcoves we also have His Place Christian Resource Center – a book store owned by APFUM and our own Gather Bistro and Bakery where our community loves to gather for lunch with ladies groups and friends. Inside The Alcoves is also Salon Beautopia. We went internationally and started a mission in Nicaragua in 2015, where we established a beauty school to help single moms and those in need. Currently we are in the process of completing paper work in hopes to take the “Our Farm” model we’ve developed here in Abbeville, South Carolina, and replicate it in Nicaragua, potentially within the next year. This will allow us to serve even more people in need.

One of the most pivotal moments in my journey was when a dear friend took her own life. In my grief, I questioned God, wondering how such tragedy could fit into His plan. But as I look back, I now see how that devastating tragedy has shaped our ministry for now and future years to come.

Today, our ministry has grown to include a 60-acre farm, where we offer therapeutic and educational services, to include art/right brain development, horse therapy, organic gardening, nature trail and other educational opportunities. These modules are designed to be natural therapeutic models to bring healing for those suffering with, anxiety, depression, and suicidal tendencies along with trauma.

Our farm operates through progenerative gardening model that combines regenerative agriculture practices with conservation principles to restore the health of the soil and promote environmental stewardship. Through this approach, we aim to create a holistic environment where individuals can learn and grow alongside the land, fostering healing and renewal for both people and the planet.

We’ve seen countless lives transformed. The farm, which was paid off in January 2025, is already a haven for healing, and educational opportunities. I’m excited to see what the future holds as we continue to build and expand our services.

My story is one of hope and redemption. Despite the challenges, I’ve learned that every experience, good or bad, can be used to help others. As Romans 8:28 says, “And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” My prayer is that my story will inspire others to hold onto hope, knowing that their struggles can be turned into opportunities for growth and service.

Testimony from previous lady attending an overnight retreat. I knew God had
called me to seek help from Our Farm for the entire year leading to my stay
( August 2025 ) but even still, I didn’t realize just what a transformation it would bring.
The work with Joan (one of the life coaches) first allowed me to clarify the
underlying root in order to focus precisely on what God had been leading me to ultimately recognize. With this seed planted, the transition to work with the horses allowed the seeds to be watered and God allowed the transformation to take place. God allowed Harley (one of the horses) to be a mirror of my life and the internal work began. Harley took the load I have carried for 40 years and both relieved me from the weight and showed me precisely what I needed to remain free of the load in the next chapter of my life.
The forgiveness and freedom I found has opened my eyes and given me a clear view allowing me to build a new life going forward and not be too tied down by the weight of my old self. My family, my friends, my husband, my son, strangers all remark at the lightness they see in the months following.Thankful to have taken that step to take the last 10 years of heart work over that final hump to find freedom at last. -Free

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not always been a smooth road. We have had many challanges- some of the greatest challenges we’ve faced is balancing time and resources. Managing multiple ministries, relying on volunteers, and resources to come in as we are a non profit that has walked by faith. At times it can be challenging finding others that have your same passion and are willing to give of themselves as positions like house staff.
Finding the time to take care yourself, and family takes effort, and sometimes it feels like there just aren’t enough hours in the day.

We’ve also had to make some tough decisions along the way. Recently, our board is pursuing selling our residential home. It is a difficult decision, but we believe it’s the best way to steward our resources and make a greater impact. With the residential home, we are only able to help a small number of people at a time, and the staffing demands were high. Not only were we finding it difficult to find help, there seemed like less young ladies were willing to come and truly seek change in their lives. The services were free, however it required them to have a willing heart to seek change!
Now, we’re focusing on building infrastructure on Our Farm, where we can reach more people and meet the greater needs we’re seeing. It’s not always easy waiting to see where funding will come from, but we believe it will come!
Currently the farm is running strictly with volunteers. Once we have climate controlled facilities, and are in a position to hire staff we can offer more services.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
In my early twenties, I worked in garment production coordination for a shirt manufacturing company, part of my role included experience in payroll, insurance, and serving as a liaison between the corporate team and production floor. I was responsible for creating technical specifications, communicating production requirements and ensuring accuracy in the manufacturing process. This experience taught me how to navigate complex systems, problem-solve and communicate effectively with various stakeholders. These skills have been valuable in my leadership role as President and Founder of A Place for Us Ministries, International, Inc. This role has required me to be able to deal with regulatory agencies on a local and state level, make business decisions, staffing and so much more. Working with the shirt manufacturer company combined with my 35 years as a beautician, business owner, and my certification in life coaching, I’ve developed a diverse set of skills that prepared me well for my current role. I’ve had hands-on experience building and managing infrastructure, navigating complex systems, and solving problems, which has been invaluable in establishing and growing our ministry. These experiences have taught me how to communicate effectively, manage a business, and inspire and empower others.
I’ve always said volunteering for this ministry has given me an education I could never get in a classroom! I have always worked as a volunteer. I do not receive an income, seeing lives changed and saved has been great pay back for the time I’ve served.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
From a young age, I was drawn to creative pursuits like hairstyling and beauty, and also had a passion for horses. I guess you could say I’ve always loved people, considered myself being friendly, caring, and nonjudgemental.
Although an injury led to a temporary setback in me riding horses, yet my love for them persisted. After an accident on a horse, I was afraid to get back on one but still admired their beauty! But never in a million years did I think I’d ever have a ministry helping people through equine interaction. Horses could sense my fear and they reacted as such. When a young lady told me she had a dream and that APFU was going to have a horse farm. I said oh no- I can’t even look at horses without them raring up.
As far back as I can remember I believed there was a God and I prayed to him and believed he could help me. Went to church most Sundays. Later through my son’s sickness is when my faith grew.

As a child, I loved playing by the creek and exploring the outdoors. Although I didn’t enjoy gardening back then, I’ve now found a new passion for organic gardening and sharing that with others. It’s beautiful to see how my experiences, both past and present, have come full circle to help me walk in the purpose I believe God created me for.
