Conversations with Stephanie Smith

Today we’d like to introduce you to Stephanie Smith

Hi Stephanie, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born and raised in Orlando, Florida and studied Event Management at the University of Central Florida. While in college I worked at a florist and that is where my love of flowers and weddings started to grow.

I started my business at the end of 2019. When the Covid-19 pandemic hit, I was worried my business would not take off. I hung in there, had 1 wedding in 2020 and then 20 in 2021. Since then my business has continued to grow.

Design, details and planning comes naturally to me and my passion for weddings and flowers continue to grow year after year.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Every wedding and event I learn something new that I take with me to the next. I have grown so much as a designer and coordinator and I believe that is evident in my designs since day 1 compared to now.

Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
Orchid & Oak offers wedding and event flowers and coordinating. I specializing in unique arrangements tailored to my clients vision and budget. I have the privilege of working at some of the most beautiful venues in my surrounding area.

I am proud of starting this business with little to no knowledge of how to run a business and being where I am now. I couldn’t have done it without the support of my husband Travis and my friends and family who supported me along the way. I am also proud of running this business while working a part time job and raising 3 handsome boys ages 6, 4 and 1.

What sets me apart from others in my industry is I not only offer flower arrangements but also day-of wedding coordinating. Approx. 1/3 of my brides utilize both my services on their big day allowing me to be there from start to finish.

Where we are in life is often partly because of others. Who/what else deserves credit for how your story turned out?
My husband deserves the most credit for his unwavering support since I started this business. He helps with all the behind the scenes of the business and has spent countless hours loading for events, backing up my trailer, cleaning roses, pulling greenery and more.
