Today we’d like to introduce you to Roxana.
Hi Roxana, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I was born in Romania, but my journey has taken me across borders and cultures, shaping both who I am and the music I create. I moved to Portugal as a child, and that’s where my love for music really started to grow. Later, I spent three important years in the UK, where I explored different genres, experimented with new sounds, and began working more on R&B – the genre that felt most natural to me. During that time, I also connected with other musicians and built meaningful relationships.
Now I’m back in Portugal, but my music continues to travel far beyond. I work internationally, mainly in R&B and Pop, collaborating with artists from all over the world. I started out in Dance music – one of the highlights being “Love Letter,” my collab with Pedro Cazanova that hit #1 in Romania and aired on MTV. And today, even though R&B is my foundation, I still love to explore genres that share a similar energy. A great example is “Fall,” my new Afro House collaboration with PADÉ and Edward Maya.
Lately, I’ve also started making music in my native language, embracing my Balkan roots and deepening my connection with where I come from. I’m passionate about culture and artistic expression, and I love performing in multiple languages – it’s a way to show that music truly is a universal language.
Inspired by artists like Chris Brown, Ariana Grande, and Dafina Zeqiri, I focus on creating music that’s honest, emotional, and true to who I am. I’m always evolving, collaborating, and staying rooted in the sound that feels most like home.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
The journey hasn’t been smooth – music is beautiful, but the industry is complex and challenging. You really have to love what you do to keep going. It’s a world where patience, resilience, and a willingness to fail are essential. All musicians face battles but despite these struggles, the rewards – connecting with listeners, expressing myself authentically, and growing as an artist – make it all worthwhile.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I’m a singer-songwriter specializing in R&B and Pop, with a unique twist – I sing in multiple languages. It’s something I truly enjoy, as it allows me to connect with a diverse audience and express myself authentically.
What I’m most proud of is the R&B music I create. It’s where my heart lies, and the feedback I receive is incredibly rewarding. One of the most memorable compliments I’ve gotten is that I make music “to make babies,” which I take as a testament to the sensual and captivating vibe I aim to convey in my songs.
What sets me apart is this blend of linguistic diversity and a focus on creating music that connects with the listener on a deeper, more intimate level. I believe music is a universal language, and by singing in different languages, I can reach people from various cultures and backgrounds, making my music feel personal and connected.
Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
I haven’t had a formal mentor, but in many ways, figuring things out on my own has been a form of self-mentorship. Navigating the music industry requires resilience and adaptability, and I’ve learned a lot by trusting my instincts and staying committed to my vision.
That said, connecting with others has been invaluable. Building relationships with artists who are ahead of me in the industry has provided insights and perspectives that I wouldn’t have gained otherwise. Over the years, I’ve surrounded myself with a circle of talented musicians – singers, songwriters, producers – and we’ve all learned from each other. Some share the same vision, while others offer different perspectives, but together, we’ve grown and evolved.
Networking isn’t just about exchanging business cards – it’s about forming genuine connections. Attend industry events, engage with fellow artists on social media, and don’t hesitate to reach out to those you admire. Authenticity goes a long way. As I’ve found, the relationships you build can become the foundation of your growth and success in this industry.
