Conversations with Olivia Olson

Today we’d like to introduce you to Olivia Olson

Hi Olivia, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
About 3 years ago my husband Mikal and I wanted to make a big life change. We were living in our hometown in Washington state and knew we’d either have kids, buy a house and settle down or make a big leap. We took the big leap by selling almost everything we owned, packing 2 bags each and flying across the country to South Carolina. We had no jobs, long term housing, cars or connections but we made it work! It really sparked in us an even deeper desire to explore the world and create the life of our dreams. We immersed ourselves in our new community and also began traveling even more. Outside of our 9-5s Mikal got into photography so he could document our travels and I started an Instagram page for outdoorsy travelers.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
As someone who’s always struggled with anxiety, the decision to start our lives over somewhere foreign to us was terrifying. On one of our first road trips to Asheville our car broke down on the side of the road at night and we only had one person we could call who we had met just a couple weeks earlier. I was worried about what people would think when we announced our decision to move and when I started posting more about our story. But both of those decisions have opened up so many opportunities and experiences for us!

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I went to school for Recreation Therapy and spent about 5 years in that field. I got certified in Aquatic Therapy, wrote a grant and started an adaptive cycling program and loved helping older adults engage in meaningful activities. When we moved I knew I wanted to continue working in the retirement industry but I was open to other positions. I now work as an IT Support Specialist at a retirement community and love it! Being a Content Creator on the side has allowed me to have a creative outlet outside of my technical job. I love inspiring people to invest in their lives outside of their 9-5 by connecting with nature and exploring the world-even if that’s just their backyard!

How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
I often collaborate with like minded brands by showcasing their products or unique stays to the travel community. I love connecting with people who have the same interests on social media!
