Conversations with Money Team Bros

Today we’d like to introduce you to Money Team Bros.

Money Team Bros, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I go by bakpackrj. I go by Big Cam. Together we make the Money Team Bros! We are the hottest duo out right now. We have been doing music for three years now. We started making music while we were in college. It was difficult because we went to different schools. So, we started off recording verses on our phones and sending them back and forth to one another. Eventually, we ended up ordering a mic and interface off Amazon, and then we got Pro Tools and started recording in a dorm room closet when we could link.

We would let people listen to the songs and they would be like, “it’s alright, it sounds okay”, but that was it. So, after we graduated, we started taking it more seriously and were going to the studio every day that we could. We started finding and developing our sound and that’s when people started saying they could hear the progression in our sound and that the music was sounding better. Now, we try to make sure we write or do something towards music every day now.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It hasn’t been a smooth road for us at all. But even still, we always find a way to overcome any obstacle that we’ve faced. One of our biggest challenges is branching out. Building a fan base is harder than most people probably think and the music business is not cheap. We have hundreds of songs in the vault and we’re learning that it’s not about how much music you have put out, but more so about how you market the songs before, during, and after you release them.

We come off a little unorthodox because we aren’t solo artists, so people are thrown off, by the fact that we are a duo. Also, we don’t make the typical “trap” music, so most people don’t know what to expect from us. Like, for instance, this new tape we’ve been working on. It’s called, “The Chosen Ones”. It’s going to be different. We’re about 70% done with it. We don’t have a release date just yet but be on the lookout. “The Chosen Ones”, that’s an exclusive! We haven’t released the name yet so y’all are the first to know.

But we’re excited about this tape because, for a lot of people, it’ll be their introduction to the Money Team Bros. So, we can’t wait for y’all to hear it. It’s going to be an experience.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
The Money Team Bros. are musical artists. We can be known for a lot of things. We were known for being good athletes, and now we’re known for being talented artists. We specialize in our versatility. We also specialize in adjustments, whether it’s on stage or the venues only having one mic, or even having the wrong show mix played, we still put on a show. We are very proud of the progress we’ve made from when we first started to now.

We never thought we would have done as many live performances, recording sessions, or have our music streamed on major platforms, but we would be most proud of our efforts and how we refuse to give up. What sets us apart from others would be how we separate our music and ideas from other local or even mainstream artists. Our music will always transition from one artist to another. Also, how authentic we are. Growing up in the church, finishing school, knowing that we really have to keep God first.

Some people forget who passed the ball to them once they get it rolling, but for the Money Team Bros, y’all getting the real us. That’s why we will be able to relate to our fans. We can admit we still work jobs and how many times we have struggled to maintain paying bills and doing music. We’re not afraid of any beats some people may not rap on. We want everything.

If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
We feel you have to be comfortable with being uncomfortable. Success doesn’t live in comfort, it comes from adversity so you should meet adversity face to face. Confidence is a huge part of it as well. If you don’t believe in yourself, then nobody else will.
