Conversations with Melyssa Lynch

Today we’d like to introduce you to Melyssa Lynch

Hi Melyssa, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Art has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, woven into my earliest memories of drawing and painting as a way to express myself. Over the years, it has grown into much more than a pastime—it’s my creative outlet, a source of joy, and a constant companion through life’s ups and downs. Along the way, I got married and had two beautiful children, an experience that enriched my life in countless ways and taught me the importance of patience, balance, and creativity in every aspect of life.

Now, as an art teacher, my passion for art has taken on new meaning. My students inspire me every day with their unique perspectives, boundless creativity, and willingness to explore. Teaching art has deepened my understanding of the process and reaffirmed the importance of nurturing creativity in all stages of life.

Beyond the classroom, I pursue painting as a personal endeavor, where I love to capture moments and tell stories through my art. Whether it’s the delicate interplay of light and shadow or the emotions tied to a fleeting moment, I strive to create pieces that resonate deeply. Through teaching, creating, and sharing, art remains a central part of my identity, connecting me to others and offering endless opportunities for discovery and expression.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
For the most part, my artistic journey has been pretty smooth with only a few minor bumps in the road. For instance, in college, I started a mural business, a journey that was not always easy but one that ultimately shaped me as an artist. It challenged me to step out of my comfort zone and work on a larger scale, testing my creativity and perseverance. Through this experience, I learned to embrace bold ideas, collaborate with clients, and refine my techniques. The mural business pushed me to see my art not just as a personal passion but as something that could inspire and connect with others.

As life unfolded, motherhood then became the most important and fulfilling role I’ve ever taken on. It brought me immeasurable joy and profoundly influenced my art, teaching me patience, empathy, and the beauty of seeing the world through fresh eyes. My husband and children would turn out to be my greatest supporters, always encouraging me to create whenever I could. However, the demands of being a mother often meant placing my own art on the back burner. While I cherished the moments spent doing art with my children, sharing in their creativity and joy, I still found it difficult to fully connect with my own artistic voice during that time. However, I just needed to be patient!

Now that my children are grown, I’ve rediscovered that spark and feel a renewed sense of purpose and joy in my studio. Sharing art with others, both in the classroom and beyond, has been deeply fulfilling. Helping others explore their creative voices continues to inspire me to push my own artistic boundaries. This journey has strengthened my connection to art in ways I never could have imagined, enriching my days with renewed passion and purpose.

Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
As a mixed media artist, I work across a variety of mediums, including oils, acrylics, watercolor, and more, blending techniques in the hopes to craft distinctive and expressive artworks. I explore many topics, including realistic watercolors, mixed media abstracts, and custom pet and house portraits, but nothing is off the table when it comes to creative exploration. I take pride in my passion and positive outlook, which inspire me to keep exploring new creative possibilities. My abstract pieces delve into texture, movement, and emotion, using layered materials to evoke depth and intrigue. My realistic watercolor paintings are deeply personal, inspired by original photographs I take to capture moments and emotions. Most of these watercolors are inspired from some of my favorite places I like to travel, including Charleston, South Carolina, Ireland and the coast – any coast!

It’s hard to pinpoint what sets me apart because I have such a deep appreciation for the vast diversity of the art world, drawing inspiration from so many artists, their unique styles, and creative visions. I would like to think that even though we are all celebrating the beauty of art in many different forms, we are all in this together. We are all unique in our own way, and it is this individuality that makes us stronger, allowing us to create, inspire, and connect in ways that are truly remarkable.

This celebration of individuality is central to my work, which I offer for purchase on my site, featuring a variety of styles and mediums. I also take commissions, creating personalized pieces like pet portraits, house portraits, or custom designs tailored to your vision. Just let me know your thoughts, and we can work together to create a personalized art piece that reflects your ideas and style!
