Conversations with Megan Livingston

Today we’d like to introduce you to Megan Livingston

Hi Megan, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I actually was a welder and network marketer prior to becoming a photographer. I had been welding for a few years and picked up working with a network marketing company called It Works. It Works sold health and wellness products on social media and as reps, we were asked to take photos of the products and share to social media to attract customers. My upline taught me how to use editing apps to make the photos pop more. I began using these editing apps to apply the same principles to photos of my kids and before long, photos of other people’s kids. My first paid photography booking I actually shot with my iPhone! I had already purchased a camera but was very intimidated by it, but after I was paid $100 to take photos with my phone, I decided to learn how to use it. I immersed myself in every in person or online workshop I could get my hands on and I began to get bookings from all over the place. I started out like most photographers do shooting kids, families, weddings, headshots, food- I just loved all of it and had no idea what I wanted to specialize in. About a year in, I decided I wanted to try my hand at boudoir and just fell in love with the impact I was able to make with this genre in particular.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Oh gosh, no. This has been a very long, hard journey with so many ups and downs, but it has all been worth it! I had to learn how to price myself profitably, how to market myself, how to manage money properly, etc. What I love about photography and business is that you can never know absolutely everything. There is ALWAYS something new to learn. Just when you think you have a good system down, something out of your control changes and you have to be able to pivot. It keeps me on my toes for sure!

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I am a luxury portrait photographer and I specialize in both boudoir and fine art photography. I have put fine art on the back burner for now but I plan to return to it once I can scale the boudoir side of my business. My team and I are known for being easy to work with. Our all female staff makes doing a boudoir session both easy and fun! We are all pretty relatable and laid back, but still professional as well. All of the women who work with us tell us how comfortable they felt and how much they loved not only the photos but the experience. We make it easy for our clients to just show up and we take care of the leg work usually associated with other photography experiences they may have had in the past. We provide wardrobe, professional hair and makeup services, I personally demonstrate posing and coach them through facial expressions, and we offer professional printing services. This means if they order a photo album, it gets shipped directly to their doorstep after their session. Our turnaround times also help us to stand out. Most digital image orders are delivered within 24 hours and most printed products are delivered within 1-2 weeks.

What do you like and dislike about the city?
When I first to Moncks Corner, I wasn’t really sure about it. It’s a small little town so everything shuts down at 10 0r 11 pm and I wasn’t sure if that was a good thing or a bad thing haha! I’ve come to love the community and all of the diversity it has to offer! Some of my favorite places include Caribbean Delight, Ophelia’s Wines and Bites, and Gilligans!
