Today we’d like to introduce you to Lisa Pontius
Hi Lisa, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
I began posting online like many other people, during COVID. It was never meant to be more than another silly app, but it turned into something much more. Over time I met people and made connections with others who felt similarly to me about topics like motherhood, marriage, parenting and social justice. What started as something silly quickly became my outlet for adult discussion as a stay at
Home mom with young kids. My platform grew and I have been able to share my life, my style, and my point of view with a larger audience than I ever imagined.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
My biggest hurdle has been dealing with negative comments and trolls. I think that comes with the territory, with vulnerability comes people who want to tear you down. But the other biggest challenge is one I feel most mothers will understand and that is balancing it all. I have three young children and have always been a stay at home parent, so now having this outlet that takes time out of my day creates a new sort of friction in my schedule that I haven’t had before. As a mother, it is a constant struggle to make sure that the time I am taking from my day is worth it, and balanced with the time I spend fully engaged and present.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I create social media content that empowers women, encourages new moms (and experienced moms) to find themselves again after having children through personal style and self-actualization. I encourage healthy relationships and boundaries and share my parenting journey. Overall I am just really proud that I have encouraged people to live more authentically and purposefully.
What has been the most important lesson you’ve learned along your journey?
I have learned that everyone has a story to tell but not everyone can find the words. I was a shy child and was very introverted, so finding my voice through social media has been a transformative experience for me. Most people probably come out of their shells in their younger years, but for me, living out loud on the internet has allowed me to find myself and my voice in my 30s. I have also learned the value in just being yourself. You cannot live in any space (real or digital) trying to meet an unobtainable standard of perfection. Making yourself small to avoid criticism is a losing battle, you might as well take up space and enjoy yourself! Life is messy, so are our lives, and our relationships. Know who you are and be that, and that will always be enough.
