Conversations with Lila Young

Today we’d like to introduce you to Lila Young.

Hi Lila, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, maybe you can tell our readers some of your backstory.
I am originally from Georgetown, SC and right now I live in Florence, SC. I am kid #11 out of 13, yes; I have 12 siblings. My mom had me in the kitchen at a super young age, I followed her around and wouldn’t stop asking her to show me this or that. Eventually, when I was 7; she let me bake my first cake-it was chocolate and at the age of 8 she let me fry my first piece of chicken. I believe that is why cooking is so peaceful for me now. Also, I am a 30 year old divorced single mom, I originally work in the healthcare field in various positions. I originally started cooking content as a hobby but I gradually started gaining recognition for it. I cook practically everyday for me and my children so recording it wasn’t too much of a hassle to add on.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
So far the process has not been too challenging, i try to stay true to myself and my craft. I aim to always be original with it.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I love to cook down home recipes and I put a twist on them. I always feel a little more authenticity from my videos than some other content creators. Maybe that’s just a common feeling most of us will have. I am proud of the dedication that I have for the craft, I oftentimes get discouraged whenever it doesn’t go exactly my way but I have been pretty positive towards the process. I think I can be best known for my presentation, I always watched my mom prepare my father’s plate. She would pick the best plate and plate everything so neatly. I believe that just stuck with me.

Can you tell us more about what you were like growing up?
I was kind of quiet around people but very outgoing around my family. Loved music & sports, always ready to watch music videos after school. Loved hanging out in my room up until high school came around. I became all about sports, I honestly wasn’t very good but I was dedicated, consistent and I really enjoyed it.
