Today we’d like to introduce you to Leigha Tingle.
Hi Leigha, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
In 2020, like so many Americans, I lost my job as an interior designer due to the pandemic. I felt like I had nothing left to lose, so I drained my savings account and I took a leap to open a small boutique in my Florida hometown. I shared the journey, the highs, the lessons, and the behind-the-scenes on TikTok, and struck luck when my second video went viral with over 4 million views. Overnight, I gained 30K followers, and my small boutique took off.
Over the next few years, my boutique evolved into a full-fledged brand, with custom designed quilted bags and accessories becoming our signature. With eyes set on expansion, I took a road trip in 2024 up the East Coast, searching for the perfect spot for Franklin & Rose 2.0. I spent just a few hours in Charleston and the charming city completely stole my heart. I moved there for the summer, got to work, and by October, we opened our 2nd store on Broad Street. Now, we’re keeping that momentum going, bringing Franklin & Rose to Blowing Rock, North Carolina this spring!
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
I can confidently say it’s never been a smooth road, just a difficult yet incredibly rewarding journey. I started a retail boutique with zero retail experience, which came with its own challenges. But once I finally got the hang of running a boutique, I decided to shake things up and start scaling into a brand—again, with no experience.
I quickly realized that business ownership is all about constantly molding, adapting, and learning. Every stage of growth comes with new lessons, and honestly, I feel like a student, my business is the teacher, and every day brings a new skill to master.
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about what you do?
I design hand drawn floral prints, working closely with textile designers and manufacturers in India to bring quilted accessories to life in an ethical and intentional way. What sets my brand apart is our commitment to artistry, quality, and sustainability. I’m most proud of creating pieces that are not only beautiful and functional but also thoughtfully made.
What would you say have been one of the most important lessons you’ve learned?
Success in business comes from constant evolution. You have to be willing to adapt, learn, and grow because what worked yesterday won’t always work tomorrow. It can be frustrating because the work never ends, but you have to embrace the journey!
