Today we’d like to introduce you to Kc Williams.
Hi Kc, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
Well i started at a really young age. My father was a tattooer himself. Infact I got my first Tattoo when I was only a week old. Long story short the Dr’s didn’t agree with the name my parents wanted for me and in the mix of everything my father tattooed a smiley. Face on the heal of my foot. From there i did my first Tattoo on a grapefruit. And started making needles for my tattoo to tattoo at 10 years old. By 19 I was fully tattooing myself and friends. Everything I used isn’t used today in the industry. And I still only use coil machines. I got in my first Tattoo shop here in sc at 21. I bounced around for a few years and traveled living out of a van for a period of time when I ran into the opportunity to open my first Tattoo parlor in moncks corner sc. From there my name exploded and with in a year I had my second shop in goose creek sc. It was more focused on the military base. After about 5 years I decided after all the traveling across the country working with artist like ink master clean rock and James Vaughn that I wanted to start life over. So I sold everything and moved to the upstate trying to figure out what God had in store for the future. During that time I have decided to give all the money that I had away from selling my business and used tiktok to do such. Where I ended up coming known as mr pay it forward. Currently holding 760k followers. I bought people cars and dirtbikes and all. Kinda of things. After about 2 years or two in my lap to open a new shop so I did. And In my new faith I decided to name it legion tattoo society in reference to the legion of angels from the Bible. Infact my tattoo shop is fully faith based with scripture everywhere and I use my shop to give testimony and to preach the gospel. On Wednesday mornings we hold a small. Group and Bible study. From here i hope to not just grow my shop with the community using it to reach out to more people with the gospel but as an entrepreneur open multiple business with different angel investors to bring back old traditions that travelers rest sc has. Like a tack shop for horse riding, and gun/ fishing/ hunting shop. And most importantly my work working shop (my retirement plan)
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No it was never smooth. Nothing good ever comes easy. Between ridicule from people and other artists. Then running the life style of sex, drugs and rock and roll. When I have been clean 11 years June! This industry is a blessing and can be a curse at the same time.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I’m a tattoo artist in travelers rest sc. I specialize in all styles of tattooing. I came up in a generation that had to be able to tattoo all styles. Im known for drawing on full sleeves and leg sleeves freehand without a stencil. I’m proud of being able to come into a turning point of the industry and seeing it developed over the years. There’s a few things I feel that sets me apart from others. Alot of my work is completely free hand and custom drawn right on the body especially if it’s a traditional or neotraditional or Japanese style of tattooing. Another thing that I do is fly people out to my shop from around the country. We are currently going to be flying out the 14th person to my shop. I have also done huge giveaways including one person winning a free tattoo session every month for a year. I also run a deal called toys for tats. For every toy you bring in it gets your an entry to win a tattoo session with me. Then we donate the toys during the holidays
Are there any books, apps, podcasts or blogs that help you do your best?
I mean i use procreate for any realism or constructing the idea of a future tattoo. Ofn course Facebook and Instagram is a good platform for show me work. But most of all I use my TikTok which is currently at 770k followers to not only advertise but I use it to gather clients that I fly from different states.
Pricing:
- Pricing all depends on what you’re getting done. I can charge by the tattoo or per session if it’s larger work. It’s always best to have a free consult with me so I can go over your ideas, pick your brain and come up with a design so I can fit you tattoo within your budget
