Conversations with Karis Fleetwood

Today we’d like to introduce you to Karis Fleetwood

Hi Karis, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
It all started when I found out I was pregnant with my daughter at the age of 23. I was sitting in my room wondering how was I going to provide a more stable lifestyle for her, at the time I was serving tables and needed something else. I was on YouTube looking up waxing specialist and what it would take to get started with that. The very next day I went to a cosmetology school to get more information on how and when I could get started! I gave birth to my daughter in March of 2018 and by November 2018 I was enrolled and starting Esthetics classes. I graduated from Kenneth Shuler Cosmetology School in 2019 from there I got my license and started my journey in retail at a Makeup store!
Fast forward to May 2021 I started working at the MAC Cosmetics counter in the Citadel Mall. I was able to hyper focus on being better and faster with makeup application. This is how Bare Aura was created, I needed a separate instagram page to display my work and that is how I started a whole business with it. Over the years I have grown and learned so much about makeup, and how much of an impact it makes on my clients that I service regularly!
If I had to do it all over again I would, the journey alone has been amazing and is still so exciting to this day and I am so blessed to be able to experience this.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No it has not been a smooth road! There have been ups and downs along the way for sure, I started building my clientele immediately after the Pandemic. That was a slow process because everyone was still afraid to be in close proximity to others. It was really challenging trying to do makeup and we were still wearing masks. I still kept my head up and pushed through even when I wanted to give up I couldn’t because I had this responsibility to set an example for my daughter.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m an Esthetician specializing in Makeup and Lashes. I’m known for doing natural/ enhancing makeup and lash extensions.
I’m most proud of the makeup looks I provide to my clients. I do not do heavy makeup applications and my clients leave their appointments feeling motivated, inspired and heard.

So, before we go, how can our readers or others connect or collaborate with you? How can they support you?
