Conversations with Justin Gray

Today we’d like to introduce you to Justin Gray

Hi Justin, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I have been collecting Antiques for approximately 22 years. I started when I was 14 going to flea markets, auctions, estate sales. Started collecting Indian artifacts then digging for old bottles. Over the years I developed a strong interest in the hobby.

February 2024 my significant other and I (Randall Boulware) decided to start an estate sale company one night sitting in the kitchen drinking wine. What seemed like a spur of the moment thought became a fast reality. After filing for our LLC our business took off at a rapid pace. We conducted estate sales for clients across the state of South Carolina, and North Carolina.

Last year I obtained my SC auctioneer license and currently just obtained my auctioneer firm license for the state of SC. We are excited to start doing auctions for clients in SC this year. We also recently opened an antique shop in Union SC located at 720 W Main St Union SC. we have a new antique mall that we just created and we have dealers from Asheville NC, Charlotte NC, Columbia SC, and Spartanburg that will be selling their merchandise in our store.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When my partner Randall and I first started the business back in February 2024 we started from scratch. Both of us had never owned a business before and we had to navigate the paperwork through the State and coming out of cost from our pocket for computers and websites etc. We basically started from scratch and worked our way up.

Our first estate sale we did was in March of 2024 located in Taylors SC. We had thousands of people attend he sale and had a few logistical issues, however it was our first estate sale and we rocked it. As we grew the company there were a lot of long days traveling to meet clients sometimes 300-500 mile round trips just to look at an estate sale.

We spend alot of nights up until midnight listing sales, on the phones with clients, and coordinating upcoming sales.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I currently work at the Cherokee County Detention Center in Gaffney as a Detention Officer. I was a police officer before in Pacolet SC and also Oak Island NC. I also served 8 years in the Marine Corps and was a Sergeant.

I did the antique thing as a hobby which has now turned into a full time career.

Are there any important lessons you’ve learned that you can share with us?
Most important lesson that I have learned is always do a good job for your clients. Word of mouth travels far and most of our sales and clients have been by word of mouth. You do a good job and people will talk about you.

Also we strive to provide best customer service at our sales. We want the customer and the client happy after the sale
