Today we’d like to introduce you to Jazmine Reed.
Hi Jazmine, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My professional journey began seven years ago, but my love for beauty started long before that. As a young girl, I loved styling my Barbie and Bratz dolls’ hair. I also grew up watching my mom, my granny, and my mom’s best friend do my hair, their own hair, and the hair of others. My mom was multitalented—she did both hair and nails—so creativity and beauty were always around me.
During Christmas break of my freshman year of college, I took a leap of faith and purchased a KISS acrylic nail kit. I practiced on myself throughout the entire break, and I became fascinated with the process and proud of what I was creating. Once I began sharing my work and expressing my interest in doing nails, my family and friends supported me by allowing me to practice on them. From there, I continued developing my skills and building my clientele. That was in December 2018, and the rest is history.
I am where I am today because, no matter how difficult life became or how many challenges I faced, I continued to find purpose and passion in being a beauty professional and creator. I naturally have a caring and nurturing spirit, and I love being a helping hand to others in any way that I can. Being able to enhance someone’s appearance, confidence, and self-care routine is something I’m truly grateful for. My work allows me to share my gifts, form meaningful connections, and pour into every person who sits in my chair—and that is what continues to inspire me.
I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
It has not always been a smooth road. In the beginning, I had to balance college, everyday life, and teaching myself a new skill while slowly building a clientele. There were moments of doubt, financial challenges, changes in my work environment, and times when life became overwhelming. I also had to learn that being talented at hair and nails was only one part of entrepreneurship. I needed to understand pricing, marketing, scheduling, setting professional boundaries, managing finances, and consistently showing up for both myself and my clients.
One of my biggest challenges has been continuing to believe in myself during seasons when progress felt slow or circumstances were uncertain. However, every obstacle has helped me become more disciplined, confident, adaptable, and intentional about my business. I am still learning and growing, but I’m proud that I never allowed a difficult season to make me give up on something that gives me so much purpose.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know about your work?
I am a licensed cosmetologist and the owner of Jazzed Up By Jazz, a beauty business specializing in both hair and nail services. My work allows me to combine artistry, creativity, and self-care while helping my clients look and feel their best. I provide a variety of services, including healthy hair care, loc maintenance and styling, silk presses, extensions, protective styles, acrylic nails, and pedicures.
I’m known for being versatile and detail-oriented. I enjoy taking a client’s vision and customizing it to complement their personal style, lifestyle, and beauty needs. What sets me apart is that I offer more than a finished hairstyle or nail set—I aim to create a comfortable, personal experience where every client feels cared for, confident, and appreciated.
I am most proud of the clientele and reputation I have built through consistency, genuine connections, and years of dedication to improving my craft. I started with an acrylic nail kit, curiosity, and the support of the people around me. Today, I am a multitalented beauty professional who can offer clients a complete beauty experience. Being able to turn my natural creativity and passion for helping others into a business with purpose is one of my greatest accomplishments.
What were you like growing up?
Growing up, I was creative, curious, and very hands-on. I loved drawing, painting, listening to music, and finding different ways to express myself. I could spend hours doing my Barbie and Bratz dolls’ hair, changing their looks, and creating my own little beauty world. Looking back, those moments were early signs of the artist and beauty professional I would eventually become.
I was also caring and naturally drawn to helping others. I enjoyed making people feel good, whether that meant lending a helping hand, being someone they could talk to, or using my creativity to brighten their day. Life caused me to mature at a young age, but it also helped shape me into someone who is resilient, compassionate, and determined. Those qualities continue to influence how I approach my relationships, my creativity, and the experience I provide for my clients today.
