Conversations with Jason Brown

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jason Brown

Hi Jason, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
Growing up, my family moved from city to city across the Upstate of South Carolina. It was tough, but my mother was an independent woman who did everything she could to provide for us. My father wasn’t in the picture, so she carried the weight alone. When we finally settled in Greenville, South Carolina, I found myself in a rough neighborhood. I adapted quickly, but unfortunately, that meant falling in with the wrong crowd. Before long, I was caught up in trouble and ended up in the Department of Juvenile Justice, spending most of my teenage years in and out of incarceration.

At 16, I was sent to a Marine Institute, where I earned my GED—my first real experience with education since I had never attended high school. I wish I could say that moment changed my life, but it didn’t. A couple of years later, I found myself in trouble again and was sent to a military-style Boot Camp called Shock Incarceration. For 90 days, they broke us down, pushing us to our absolute limits. But it was there that I discovered something powerful—my tenacity could be harnessed through fitness. I started excelling physically, earning awards, and finding real purpose in pushing my body to new heights.

After my release, I still struggled with my environment and the company I kept, but one thing had changed: I was committed to exercise. It became my therapy, my escape, my way of proving to myself that I could be better each day. I even began dragging some of my friends—many of whom were battling drug addiction—to the gym with me, hoping that fitness could help them the way it was helping me.

After a couple of years of staying out of trouble, I was given an opportunity that changed everything: my first personal training job. I loved it, even though I had no formal education in exercise science at the time. Then, I got lucky—I landed a client who believed in me. They helped me enroll in a college program for health science and personal training. Not only was I accepted, but I thrived. That experience solidified my purpose.

Since then, I have dedicated my life to serving others—helping people maximize their bodies, recover from injuries, and achieve things they never thought possible. My story is one of overcoming adversity, and now, my mission is to help others do the same.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No, some of the struggles were mentioned in the story. Since entering the fitness world, there’s a constant need to. not. only inform clients, but to help them sift through. misinformation as well. That is definitely a struggle for someone like myself who is all about improving the whole person instead of just muscular improvement.
