Conversations with Hannah Driscoll

Today we’d like to introduce you to Hannah Driscoll.

Hi Hannah, it’s an honor to have you on the platform. Thanks for taking the time to share your story with us – to start maybe you can share some of your backstory with our readers?
It started right before I decided to go to rehab. I was homeless and an acquaintance ran into me at Walmart parking lot and offered to let me stay in her guest room and work with her cleaning. I enjoyed being away from all the chaos of my life at the time and making something like new again. But things didn’t work out and I went to rehab. We had to clean there everyday. The place had to be spotless, tour ready at all times. After I graduated, I eventually went back home. There was a center in the community that did free classes for different things and I decided to go to some to kind of stay in the habit of learning and growing myself and to stay focused and not relapse. I visited their job center and they connected me to a woman who was looking for someone to help her clean a very large church in the area. What’s interesting is I had been to that church either the Christmas before I think and experienced Christ in a way different than ever before. The lady eventually hired me but she started me in cleaning houses. She taught me several things I didn’t know and even suggested a certain woman on Youtube to listen and learn from. I fell in love with cleaning and God put it in my heart to start my own business. Just so happened the lady on Youtube wrote a book on it, I purchased it and read it and implemented it. I made a bunch of paper ads and placed them in peoples newspaper boxes in the areas i wanted to work in. It took 6 months before the first customer actually called and booked. That was in October 2018. I was working at a hotel doing housekeeping in the meantime and that prepared me to do airbnbs. My story is really long to be honest but the main thread is I never gave up and God has always provided for me. We now have a crew of 11 people – 2 of those only do commercial cleans and laundry for the airbnb. The other 9 are cleaning houses and helpinig with marketing and administrative tasks.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has definitely not been a smooth road. I had no business experience before this. All I knew was what I’ve learned along the way thru other people in the same field and then mentors and coaches. One of the biggest struggles I had for a long time was substance abuse – something that I’ve struggled with since I was 15 years old. Because of that substance abuse, I was in a fight for getting custody of my daughter back as well, but I had to get clean first. I got married in September 2021 and 2 months later we found out I had ovarian cancer. Went thru 4 rounds of chemo after they removed one ovary. 5 months later we conceived our son who was born in July 2023 and a week before that I got custody of my daughter back. I’ve been sober now for 3 years and 4 months now. praise God. Jesus showed me that if He can heal me of cancer and bless us with a child after all of that then He could set me free from addiction to meth. Other struggles have been learning how to manage money and how to hire good people and create systems in the business. This is actually the biggest piece I am working on now and it’s been challenging because I’m having to do so much myself as the owner and sometimes I’m still out in the field working.

Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
We are a cleaning business that services residential, commercial and vacation rental homes. We are known for our thoroughness and attention to detail and reliability. I’m proud of the team that we have now. You attract what you are and for the longest time I was attracting people struggling with substance abuse to work for me and it was a nightmare. Things have really turned around since God delivered me and gave me an amazing team of people who have really helped the business grow and become what it is today. Our mission is to set people free to have more time with their loved ones or doing what they love by taking cleaning off of their plate. We also have a huge heart for helping people with jobs that can be flexible to their life and schedule. I was a single mom for a long time, and it was very important to me to be able to be at my daughter’s school events and be there for her when she wanted me to be. I also was fired from a job in the past because my child was sick and I had to call out or leave to get her from daycare so it was important to me to be the boss that could work with that and still give people a job and help them. Our cleaning service is a premium service. We have a very detailed list that we go by in every house every time and I believe that’s what sets us apart. People know what to expect from us and our staff know what is expected from them.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
I would like to encourage anyone who is reading this that may have a burning desire to start a business – it’s worth taking the risk. You can learn as you go. There’s so many people available now on Youtube and with books that can help you learn as you go. You are capable and if you stick to it and never give up you can succeed!
