Today we’d like to introduce you to Brittany Shytle.
Alright, so thank you so much for sharing your story and insight with our readers. To kick things off, can you tell us a bit about how you got started?
I started writing my first story in 2021, thinking that I was capable of being a writer and telling the story that was in my head. After the first few chapters, I quickly gave up, thinking that what I had written was complete rubbish. The following year I watched a show on Netflix about an indie author from another country who decided to self publish her own book when no one would believe in her and I thought to myself then, why not me? So, I picked up the same book I started and reread the chapters. It was complete rubbish, but the story wasn’t. So I took that story and rewrote it into something beautiful and took the leap. Now, I am three books into my series and have my fourth book coming out in August.
Since all of this has started, I have come so far. I have made such amazing friends along the way and found my home with people who believe in me and lift me up at every turn. Words can never express how truly thankful I am for their support.
Throughout this process my husband and children have been extremely supportive with giving me time and space to be able to write and edit my books. My mother in law is always my first buyer of every new book that I publish. Taking this leap has shown me what a true support system I have that surrounds me on a daily basis and I am so thankful for each and everyone of them.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
I would say one of the struggles with being an author and going on this journey is realizing that you don’t get just to write your book. Sure, you can write a story and put it inside a book. But to get people actually to pick up your book and read your story is an entirely different process and struggle. You have to become not only an author but a publicist, a marketer, a cover designer, and an editor. You have to wear all of the hats that come along with traditional publishing because with being an indie author those same opportunities are not offered to you. And the biggest struggle is the money. Everything costs money. Becoming an author is not a cheap process if you want to do it correctly and have a wonderful story. So, if you are proud of your work and want others to be proud of it as well, you have to pour your blood, sweat, and tears into the entire process from start to finish and then hope for the best.
Appreciate you sharing that. What else should we know about what you do?
I get to do one of the most exciting jobs out there on a daily basis and that is a police dispatcher. I work for my local police department as a telecommunications officer and truly enjoy going to work every day. My career allows me the ability to help others in the community in their time of need and also to strive for my own dreams on a daily basis as well. I couldn’t ask for a better job.
How can people work with you, collaborate with you or support you?
If you wish to work with me, I am always open to PR box give aways or book giveaways to get my book out there to the public and for reviews. Collaborating with me is super easy. Just reach out to me or my pa Francesca on Facebook, and we will gladly accept anything you are willing to throw at us. I have thought about getting into doing anthologies and look forward to dipping my toe into that soon. Supporting me is easy. Just buy my books or my merchandise. You can even read my books for free on KU, that is so supportive. Most of all, if you do read my books or any indie author or traditional published authors books, make sure you leave a review. Reviews mean everything to authors. We need them to strive and for others to find my books. So if you pick up a book and read it, review it!
