Today we’d like to introduce you to Ashley Greene/Lambert.
Hi Ashley, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’m Ashley Lambert, the owner and photographer behind Carter Alivia Photography. My journey into photography began through motherhood and the deep desire to preserve the little moments that pass by far too quickly. What started as simply documenting my own children slowly turned into a passion for capturing genuine connection, emotion, and the beauty in everyday life.
My business is named after my daughter, Carter Alivia, who passed away unexpectedly in 2023. Losing her completely changed the way I view photographs and memories. I learned firsthand that photos become some of the most treasured pieces of the people we love most. Because of that, photography became much more than just taking pretty pictures for me — it became storytelling, preserving legacies, and freezing moments that families will one day look back on and cherish forever.
Over time, what began as a creative outlet grew into a business built around authentic, heartfelt imagery for families, couples, newborns, and milestones. My style is very emotion-driven and focused on creating timeless images that feel warm, genuine, and full of life.
Today, Carter Alivia Photography has become not only a business, but a way to honor my daughter’s legacy while connecting with others through some of the most important moments of their lives. Through both my work and community efforts — including our annual Carter Greene Memorial Golf Tournament and scholarship fund — my goal has always been to turn grief into purpose and create something that continues to impact others in a positive way.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
No, it definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like many small business owners, one of the biggest challenges in the beginning was balancing everything at once — building a business, raising children, working full-time, and trying to grow creatively while learning the business side of photography. There’s a lot that people don’t see behind the scenes: long nights editing, marketing yourself, investing back into your work, and learning through trial and error.
The biggest struggle, though, was navigating life and business after the loss of my daughter, Carter. Grief changes every part of you, and there were times I questioned whether I could continue doing photography at all because emotions became so much heavier. But at the same time, that experience is what gave my work deeper meaning and purpose. It changed the way I connect with families and the way I capture moments.
There have also been challenges in balancing motherhood, marriage, career responsibilities, and entrepreneurship all at once. Building something meaningful takes a lot of sacrifice, patience, and resilience. But every obstacle along the way has shaped not only my business, but who I am as a person and artist today.
Looking back, I think the struggles are what made this journey meaningful. They taught me perseverance, gratitude, and the importance of creating something rooted in purpose rather than perfection.
Thanks – so what else should our readers know about your work and what you’re currently focused on?
I’m the owner and photographer behind Carter Alivia Photography, where I specialize in family, motherhood, newborn, maternity, and milestone photography. My work is centered around genuine connection and storytelling — capturing the moments that feel real, emotional, and timeless rather than overly posed or perfect.
I’m known for creating warm, heartfelt images with a soft, natural style that focuses heavily on emotion and authenticity. I want families to look back at their photos years from now and not just remember how everything looked, but how it felt. My approach during sessions is very laid back and connection-driven, which helps people feel comfortable and allows genuine moments to unfold naturally.
What I’m most proud of is the meaning and purpose behind my business. Carter Alivia Photography was created in honor of my daughter, Carter, who passed away unexpectedly. Losing her changed my perspective on photography entirely and taught me just how valuable memories truly are. Because of that, I approach every session knowing these photographs may one day become someone’s most treasured possessions.
I think what sets me apart is the emotional depth and intention behind my work. Photography for me is not just about creating beautiful images — it’s about preserving love, legacy, and connection. I also strive to create a welcoming experience for every family I work with, especially mothers and parents who may feel overwhelmed or worry their moments aren’t “perfect enough” to document. Some of the most meaningful moments are found in the imperfect, everyday connections we often don’t realize we’ll miss one day.
Beyond photography itself, I’m also proud of the ways I’ve been able to turn grief into purpose through community involvement, including our annual Carter Greene Memorial Golf Tournament and scholarship fund, which continue to honor my daughter’s legacy while giving back to others.
What makes you happy?
What makes me happiest are the people I love and the little moments that so easily pass us by. My husband and my boys bring so much joy and laughter into my life, and some of my favorite moments are the simple ones — slow evenings at home, beach days, golf cart rides, watching my boys grow, or just spending time together as a family. Those ordinary moments have become the ones I value most.
My daughter, Carter, continues to be one of the biggest reasons behind everything I do. Even in her absence, she has shaped the way I see life, love, and memories. Losing her taught me not to take a single moment for granted and made me appreciate the beauty in everyday life so much more deeply.
Photography also brings me a lot of happiness because it allows me to preserve those fleeting moments not only for my own family, but for others as well. There’s something incredibly meaningful about freezing a season of life that someone will one day look back on with so much love and nostalgia.
At the end of the day, I think what makes me happiest is connection — being surrounded by the people I love, creating memories together, and finding purpose in the little things that truly matter most.
