Today we’d like to introduce you to Aran Katarina Kirschenmann.
Hi Aran Katarina; we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today.
I started my social media journey when I was in college at Harvard. I took a gap year between my sophomore and junior year, which allowed me time to travel and develop my photography skills. It took effort and dedication, but what started as a passion project and an expression of my creativity grew into something much greater.
Alright, let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what challenges have you had to overcome?
My path could have been more linear. At its height, my Instagram account had over 125,000 followers. However, I stepped back for several years to focus on finishing my education, moving abroad to Denmark for two years, and beginning a career in finance. This year, I decided to revive my page. It was a difficult decision mentally because I knew I wouldn’t be able to jump in where I left off and would have to commit to the process. Yet, I am amazed and grateful for those who have eagerly welcomed me back and told me they’ve missed my colorful photos and following my journey. I am excited to continue inspiring people to travel to beautiful places like Charleston!
As you know, we’re big fans of you and your work. For our readers who might not be as familiar, what can you tell them about what you do?
Taking photos of myself in the places I travel to is a way for me to engage with and immerse myself in the place I am visiting. When going to an attraction or destination without a purpose, one might arrive, see it, and then move on. Instead, I consider the atmosphere beforehand to plan an outfit that fits the location. Once there, I search for ways to photograph myself with the attraction or in the environment aesthetically. Next, my favorite part, I get to truly make the photo come to life in the editing process. I love making a photo “pop”! My account is known for its bright colors and coordinated layout. Even when home, I find that the goal of creating an exciting and striking photo encourages me to explore locally and see the beauty around me.
