Community Highlights: Meet Tina Wilkerson of Elite Personal Training Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Tina Wilkerson.

Hi Tina, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
I began my health and wellness journey in 2001, six months after my daughter was born. I suffered from low energy levels, headaches, and back pain and weight issues. After visiting the doctor for a physical and receiving no medical explanation for my ailments, I was determined to make changes that would guarantee me the opportunity to enjoy life with my daughter. I then began learning about weight management, fitness, and women’s health and wellness. Through changes in my diet, exercise, and lifestyle, I went from a size 14 to a size 2. I decreased my joint pain and increased my stamina. I greatly decreased my headaches and improved my sleep. I’m a true testament to the benefits of adopting a healthy lifestyle. Now, I devote my life to helping others look better, move better, feel better and be their best.

I am a National Academy of Sports Medicine certified personal trainer (CPT) and corrective exercise specialist (CES). Clinical Massage Therapist; SC #12067 (2019) Myofascial One; John Barnes Institute (2019) Small-Group Program Specialist; National Academy of Sports Medicine (2018) Level One Trainer; Functional Movement Systems (2016) Behavior Change Specialist; National Academy of Sports Medicine (2016) Senior Client Specialist; National Academy of Sports Medicine (2014) Weight Loss Specialist; National Academy of Sports Medicine (2012) Corrective Exercise Specialist; National Academy of Sports Medicine (2010) Certified Personal Trainer; National Academy of Sports Medicine (2008) and The Barbell Rehab Method – Level 1 clinician.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
Owning a small business is not for the faint at heart. The challenges of “not knowing what you don’t know” often means that you learn as things get thrown at you. It requires resilience and the willingness to ask for a lot of help. Thank God for mentors who believe in me and make me do the hard work. Owning a business also means that I’m the only one in charge of “how fast the car goes” and that means there is little room to take the foot off the gas pedal. Surviving the covid pandemic as a gym was tricky. I had to quickly transition to an online model that met my clients needs while continuing to deliver an excellent service. I also have experienced my own personal challenges while growing my business, including raising a child as a single mom and stress and age-related physical issues.

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
I opened Elite Personal Training Studio Tina in 2008, after years of working in big-box gyms that prioritized numbers over real, lasting results. Driven by a personal journey of health transformation and a passion for helping others, Elite Personal Training focuses on quality, life-changing fitness. The studio is built on a mission to empower individuals to overcome gym intimidation, manage pain, and achieve sustainable health goals through personalized coaching, high accountability, and a supportive environment. We specialize in helping working professionals and retirees get stronger, move better, and fall in love with fitness. Our goal is to help our clients train for their best lives! Our boutique-style studio offers a curated and comfortable environment designed to eliminate the intimidation often found in larger gyms. We provide private amenities including a cardio room, a shower facility for post-workout freshening up, and personalized extras like workout towels and water bottles. Additionally, our soft, non-intimidating environment ensures a clean, professional atmosphere that is conducive to both private and small group training.

Before we go, is there anything else you can share with us?
