Community Highlights: Meet Sunny Dublick of Sunny Dublick Marketing

Today we’d like to introduce you to Sunny Dublick

Hi Sunny, thanks for joining us today. We’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
Well, I started out wanting to train Killer Whales so I’ve come a long way…

My career in marketing actually started with the pages of the September issue of Vogue- I needed to declare my major, and I just remember flipping through the pages of the magazine and seeing how all of the different designers were able to creatively convey their styles and what made them unique through logos and images. I was hooked. I was fortunate enough to study fashion brand marketing in Rome one summer and I just fell in love with marketing.

After graduation I went on to work for a large agency focused on gaming and hospitality. A year or so later I got the itch to learn more and expand my career goals so I went internal at a corporate marketing job… unfortunately that itch kept coming back and despite changing jobs and loving what I did I never found a place I was truly happy. At my last corporate job I was part of a round of layoffs and figured I would just freelance in the meantime until I got a fulltime job again. I would up loving it so much I parlayed it into creating my own business.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
There’s been a ton of struggles… and while I can go on and on about hiring and overhead and client challenges I think the most integral struggles have been those I have had inside my head. The mental game in business is really challenging, having successes and failures is not as important as how you internalize and handle them. One of the biggest journeys along my way has been less about the awards, contract amounts and results, and more about how I’ve learned to be more compassionate with myself and not make my identity wholly who I am as a businesswoman.

We’ve been impressed with Sunny Dublick Marketing, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
We live in a time of marketing overload and overwhelm. I created my business because I think we deserve more from marketing. If you want to create a brand you’re proud of and that your clients truly connect with- you need to focus on them first. My business is built on research- market, competitive and consumer. A large part of the lift at the beginning is talking with the people that know your brand, those who have purchased from you in the past, and those who may have considered you but chose to go in another direction. The information I glean from them allows me to create meaning and impact in your business because I am not making recommendations based on speculation. Once I am finished with research, I create strategy (and thereby intentionality) for your brand, and a marketing plan that is hyper fixated on the tactics that will provide the biggest impact.

I like to say sell creative ideas and meaningful insights to help you make better decisions and greater impact for your business.

Networking and finding a mentor can have such a positive impact on one’s life and career. Any advice?
Mastermind groups have been huge for me, as is networking in general. People like to by from people they can trust, getting a referral is gold- so you need to be able to connect with people who will pass on your info to your target audience. From a non-BD perspective, I have my “board of directors” a combination of friends, family, business associates and people I admire that I go to for mentorship. It’s so important to get an outside perspective on things and I feel like having these diverse voices allows me to make better decisions and also feel more confident in my skills.
