Community Highlights: Meet Scott Blackwell & Ann Marshall of High Wire Distilling Co.

Today we’d like to introduce you to Scott Blackwell & Ann Marshall. They share their story with us below:

Founded by husband/wife team Scott Blackwell and Ann Marshall, High Wire is dedicated to making whiskeys that shine a light on the agricultural diversity of the American South. Their approach is simple: seek the finest ingredients available and develop recipes using a creative, culinary approach. All of their whiskeys are batch-distilled to create unique expressions rooted in the terroir of the South Carolina Lowcountry. In 2019 and 2020, Scott and Ann were nominated as finalists for the James Beard Foundation award for Outstanding Wine, Beer, or Spirits Professional.

We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
We are constantly working to improve our spirit-making. Because we work seasonally, we are at the mercy of mother nature and that comes w a whole host of challenges. It’s also what makes our spirits special and unique to us! Just like any small business we are constantly navigating through day-to-day issues whether it’s supply chain issues or malfunctioning piece of equipment, there’s always something!

We love surprises, fun facts, and unexpected stories. Is there something you can share that might surprise us?
We hold the world record for the “world’s biggest cookie”. In our previous life, we owned a bakery called Immaculate Baking and baked a giant 102-foot 40k lb. chocolate chip cookie as a fundraiser.
