Today we’d like to introduce you to Laura Scukas.
Hi Laura, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
Cascade Farms SC began with a simple love for nature and the joy that flowers bring into everyday life. What started as a small family dream has grown into a blooming farm nestled in the peaceful countryside of Chesterfield County — surrounded by trees, wildlife, and the quiet sounds of nature that remind us every day why we chose this path.
Our journey began about four years ago, after moving from Connecticut to South Carolina. Back in CT, we had a small garden — just a few beds, a handful of seeds, and lots of fresh grown vegetables. When we settled here, we wanted to expand that passion into something bigger: a place where we could grow not only for ourselves but for our community. With my degree in agriculture from Colombia and a lifelong love for plants, we started growing vegetables and baking goods to sell at local farmers markets.
During that time, our family began to grow too — we found out we were expecting our daughter. That moment sparked a shift in how we saw our farm. We wanted to create something lasting, something filled with color and emotion, something she could grow up surrounded by. That’s when flowers came into our lives, bringing a sense of connection, joy, and meaning we hadn’t experienced before.
In 2023, Cascade Farms SC officially came to life as a family-oriented cut flower farm, rooted in eco-friendly and sustainable growing practices. What began with rows of zinnias, marigolds, and sunflowers soon blossomed into something much more — a place where people come not just to buy flowers, but to slow down, connect, and create memories.
Today, Cascade Farms SC offers fresh and dried blooms, seasonal workshops, and on-farm experiences that bring our community closer to nature and each other. From hand-tied bouquets to creative floral events, every petal we grow carries our love, care, and belief that flowers have the power to make life more meaningful.
As we look ahead, we’re continuing to grow — expanding our offerings, collaborating with local makers, and sharing the beauty of sustainable flowers with our neighbors in Chesterfield, Cheraw, and beyond.
At Cascade Farms SC, our story is still unfolding — and we’re so grateful to have you as part of it.
Would you say it’s been a smooth road, and if not what are some of the biggest challenges you’ve faced along the way?
As a farmer the road has many obstacles, one of the biggest one is Mother Nature, we always have to adapt to whatever she throws us and day to day, year to year is totally different. It is a hard job physical and mental, running a business takes alot out of you especially at the beginning when you are by yourself trying to figure out everything but as you get experienced things get better.
For us time is the most valuable asset so we use it wisely and we are learning into working sustainable and profitable especially when you have a little one that needs you as much as your flowers or more.
Getting people use to see us as an option to provide fresh flowers has been also a challenge, they are used to a florist and imported flowers but once they get to know the freshness, beauty and love that our flowers give they stay with us.
As you know, we’re big fans of Cascade Farms LLC. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
We grow specialty cut flowers which means those that you won’t find at the grocery store, our flowers are seasonal starting in March through typically October.
We grow those kind of flowers that inspires people and makes them happy, full of natural colors, shapes, fragrance and beauty. We are well known for long lasting flowers that are not only for special occasions but are part of your day to day life, those flowers that make you feel better when you are sad or depressed or that bring you a smile just to see them coming to a full glory on your countertops or desk.
We also offer a personal experience and our community and customers know where the flowers come from, we create friendships with our customers and people feel comfortable sharing their love with us.
In 2026 we will be attending more farmers markets, more monthly flower subscriptions and more farm experiences because we want to connect more and we want our customer to be part of our business.
We also want to add this coming year the convenience of same day delivery for special occasions, details to be published in our website soon.
We’d love to hear about any fond memories you have from when you were growing up?
The togetherness of my family, we are a Latin family so we are always happy, cheerful, music is always present in our lives and I think that is why my flowers show that Latin blood that I put into it… a sprinkle of salsa is always added to it (laugh)
