Today we’d like to introduce you to LaTasha Bellamy.
Hi LaTasha, thanks for sharing your story with us. To start, you could tell our readers some of your backstory.
At the tender age of 14, I, a high school freshman with a passion for finance, stepped into the world of numbers as a file clerk at a local trucking company in Wilmington, NC. Working alongside a CPA, I navigated the intricate landscape of finance while juggling the demands of being a full-time student. Starting from the bottom, my insatiable curiosity and work ethic allowed me to progress through various accounting roles within the company as it expanded. However, my journey unexpectedly turned in my early 20s when I faced a layoff. Undeterred, I saw it as an opportunity for a fresh start and boldly decided to move from North Carolina to Georgia, hoping for a brighter future for myself and my young daughter. In pursuit of knowledge, I continued my accounting education and entered the banking industry, accumulating over a decade of experience. In 2016, amidst a full-time job, I founded my accounting firm, laying the groundwork to support local businesses and consumers in achieving financial success. Armed with a Master’s Degree in Accounting, I successfully manage my accounting firm and share my expertise as an accounting professor at a local college. My story stands as a testament to the power of resilience, continuous learning, and unyielding dedication in the dynamic world of finance.
Can you talk to us about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned? Looking back, has it been easy or smooth in retrospect?
My journey has been far from a smooth road. Like many, I faced challenges that tested my resilience and determination—My early years involved navigating the complexities of balancing work and being a full-time student and a single mother, which were challenges that taught me time management and perseverance. The layoff in my early 20s was a significant hurdle. It prompted a move from North Carolina to Georgia, seeking a fresh start. Adjusting to a new environment with no family and no personal and professional friends came with its own set of difficulties. Building my accounting firm while working full-time and being a mother demanded relentless effort and dedication. Juggling these responsibilities required careful planning and often meant sacrificing personal time. Despite the obstacles, each challenge served as a learning experience, contributing to my professional and individual growth. These struggles shaped my resilience and equipped me with the skills needed to overcome adversity, ultimately leading to the success I’ve achieved today.
