Today we’d like to introduce you to Keysler M Washington.
Hi Keysler M, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
Small-town SC girl living proof the American Dream is real—but it doesn’t come free. Grit, sweat, and heart built my story. I’m the oldest of 3 girls and my parents were very strict when I was growing up. Looking back at my upbringing I Thank God that they were because it molded me into the woman I am today.
I’ve always worked for what I wanted that was never a secret, but sometimes It came with sacrifices. Working retail all my life I was getting tired of being away from my family at night and also on the weekends.
So I eventually put on my big girl panties lol and suck it up. I needed to make a change for a change to happen and it did. I’ve always wanted to work in finances and healthcare. So I took a chance and applied to a local bank name Regions. I got the position after my interview and so I thought I was well on my way to having the American dream. Worked there for a while and everything was going great until one day we got robbed. All kind of thoughts were going on in my head but I remained calm. No one was hurt and that was the main thing. So long story short my nerves were shot and I made up in my mind that I was going to go to school for my degree in Medical Administration.
Started my journey at University of Phoenix back in 2010 graduated in 2013. So now I’m well on my way to doing exactly what it is I wanted to do. This was no easy task application after application hearing the words you need experience to work in this field. So what’s the use of going to school to get the degree if you are not going to place me somewhere to learn. I was frustrated to say the least. So that’s when I came across the company that I currently work for EviCore healthcare/ Cigna healthcare I’ve been praying to God to get my foot in the door and it took me 3 tries and I’ve been here ever since and it’s going on 10 years now. Wow that’s an accomplishment ten years at one place that’s dedication and a love for what you do helping people.
So now we’re here I wanted to expand my wings and go out on a limb and become an entrepreneur. There’s a lot of blood , sweat and that goes behind this journey. You have to motivate yourself even when no one else does. I’ve had my hands in internet businesses that thought would push me further and eventually be the meat and potatoes of my life. Boy was I wrong you fail you have to get back up and try again. So right now my husband and I are connected to some wonderful people that connected us to the business we are in now. It has been amazing these last 4 months since we started and it’s only up from here. Lightning Shared Scooter Company.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has never been easy but it’s been worth it. Being molded into the women I am now I don’t take things personally anymore and being an entrepreneur has taught me that. Being rejected, ignored talked about only because you are trying to better your life and the life of your family.
