Today we’d like to introduce you to Katerina Vashchylka.
Katerina, we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I never planned to work in fashion — my background is actually in international law. But I always loved art, design, and the way clothing can change how a woman feels.
I started creating pieces for myself because I couldn’t find clothing that felt elegant, feminine, and truly well-made at the same time. What began as a very small project eventually grew into Maymont — a European-produced womenswear brand with our own production and now our first American store in Greenville.
For me, Maymont is not about fast trends. It’s about timeless pieces, quality, and helping women feel confident without needing to be loud.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Definitely not. There were many moments when it would have been easier to stop.
We built Maymont without investors, without large financial backing, and without shortcuts. Everything grew step by step through persistence, risk, and an enormous amount of work. At times, it felt less like building a brand and more like constantly pushing through walls.
Coming from Belarus also added another level of difficulty. The political and economic situation created challenges in production, logistics, growth, and international expansion. But instead of slowing down, we kept moving.
What makes me proud is that despite all of that, Maymont became the first Belarusian fashion brand to participate in New York Fashion Week and open a store in the United States.
So no, it was not a smooth road — but I think the hardest journeys are often the ones that shape the strongest vision.
Thanks for sharing that. So, maybe next you can tell us a bit more about your business?
Maymont is a womenswear brand built not only around clothing, but around people. Of course every business thinks about growth and success, but for me, the most important part has always been the human side of it — the relationships, the trust, the feeling that people are building something together.
That is what makes Maymont special to me. It has grown almost like a living organism: through community, loyalty, support, and shared belief. Many of our customers have been with us for years, and many become more like friends than clients.
What I’m most proud of is our team and the culture we’ve created around the brand. The journey was not easy, and it taught me that you should never give up on your vision, but also never forget the people beside you while building it.
I hope our story reminds people that persistence matters, kindness matters, and that beautiful things can still be created with heart behind them — not only for profit.
Today, Maymont continues to grow both online and offline, with worldwide online orders as well as our first American store here in Greenville.
Is there anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
I also think the fashion industry sometimes normalizes the wrong things — too much ego, too much pretending, and too little respect for people. I never believed that being cold, arrogant, or dismissive makes someone successful or important. To me, it’s actually the opposite.
No matter someone’s age, background, profession, or status, people deserve respect. Real style and real confidence are never about making others feel small.
I also believe women should not feel pressured to spend a fortune to look elegant. A beautiful wardrobe is not about showing off wealth — it’s about taste, quality, and knowing yourself.
At the end of the day, I hope Maymont feels less like a fashion label and more like a place where people feel seen, welcomed, and valued.
