Today we’d like to introduce you to Karl Horst
Hi Karl, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
The idea for the business came while I was working at my last job in a race shop. We often sent parts out to be powder coated, and had to drive 40 minutes to drop them off, sometimes dealing with long lead times. On top of that, I realized that having our own powder coating equipment would be incredibly useful for many of the projects we do. I also had a car restoration project with several parts I wanted to get powder coated, which inspired me to add sandblasting to the business. So, in June of 2024, I purchased a mobile sandblasting unit and powder coating equipment and got started.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It was a bumpy road during the first few months. Between learning a new industry, figuring out how to use my equipment, and managing the business, it was a lot to handle. Many late nights and weekends were spent in the shop. I made a lot of mistakes with the powder coating in the beginning and had to redo multiple jobs until I got it right. There were many tricks of the trade that I learned along the way, which have really helped. Every job I messed up taught me something new and showed me how to avoid making the same mistakes in the future.
Alright, so let’s switch gears a bit and talk business. What should we know?
The main services we offer are powder coating and sandblasting, including mobile sandblasting. We specialize in the automotive sector, which is where our expertise lies and what we know best. Custom work, such as coating a set of wheels or a motorcycle frame, is always enjoyable for us. However, we handle a wide range of projects, from sandblasting boats to powder coating patio furniture and railings.
