Community Highlights: Meet Jordan Hogan of Selah Skin Studio

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jordan Hogan.

Hi Jordan, we’re thrilled to have a chance to learn your story today. So, before we get into specifics, maybe you can briefly walk us through how you got to where you are today?
My journey to becoming a holistic esthetician began shortly after I moved to South Carolina. At the time, I was working as a makeup artist, but I was struggling with my own hormonal skin and couldn’t fix what was showing up on my face. That frustration led me down a path of researching skincare ingredients and cosmetic chemistry, which ultimately pushed me to enroll in esthetics school.

I fell in love with the treatment room and facials, especially chemical peels. Toward the end of school, I was introduced to Ayurveda, adaptogens, and other holistic approaches to skin by one of my instructors, Charisse Koba. I had always believed the skin was communicating something deeper, but that experience gave me a new framework. It shifted how I saw skin, and its ability to communicate for our bodies.

Over time, my practice evolved. What was once centered around aggressive treatments and strong products gradually transformed into something gentler, and more intentional. I began focusing on regulating the skin through calming rituals, supporting the barrier, and nourishing the body from the inside out. And I started seeing results that felt more sustainable.

It wasn’t until I became an esthetics instructor myself that I really gave myself permission to explore holistic esthetics fully. Around that same time, I attended a stretching session at Peaceful Pause Healing. I had known of Dr. Malai Roper for years and admired her work, but the moment I stepped into her space, it felt aligned. I knew it was where I wanted to grow.

Selah means to pause and reflect, and that philosophy is the foundation of my work. Opening my studio within Peaceful Pause Healing felt like a natural extension of that belief. This is a space where clients can slow down, reconnect, and approach their skin with compassion.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Every step has been a learning experience, but the lessons definitely felt like struggles in the moment! The first big hurdle I had to clear was learning to be myself. I had an image in my mind of the “perfect esthetician” instead of visualizing my best self, Once I allowed myself to do that, I realized that my individuality was special and created meaningful experiences for my clients, which has allowed me to blossom as an esthetician.

The most recent struggle has been overcoming burnout. I actually have to practice with at I preach and take care of myself. Teaching multiple classes while also working at a spa I had been watching for years brought me joy, and kept me on my toes, but I was not taking time to grow. The shift away from a 60-hour work week is what made it possible for me to open Selah Skin Studio. I had to make time for what I love.

As you know, we’re big fans of Selah Skin Studio. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
Selah Skin Studio is place for individuals to come and press pause on the stressors of day-to-day life. My facials and body treatments move slow, allowing you to fully relax and let go. I combine Ayurvedic rituals with techniques for nervous system regulation to promote relaxation and healing on multiple levels.

I am excited to be working with Evan Healy products to help support skin barrier health. The brand manages to feel luxurious while following a “less is more” approach to products. The signature lavender matcha facial is my favorite facial I’ve ever had!

If you are curious about a holistic skin approach, or you want to experience a deeper level of peace Selah Skin Studio is for you.

What do you like best about our city? What do you like least?
I love the growing amount of third spaces in our city! Strolling along the river walk, visiting the W. Gordon Belser arboretum, and weekly trips to the Richland County library are some of my favorite ways to take care of myself. We also have a great community, and so many events to enjoy!

The thing I like least about the city is traffic on game days!
