Community Highlights: Meet Jillian Crabtree of Sugar Me

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jillian Crabtree.

Hi Jillian, we’d love for you to start by introducing yourself.
I’ve been an esthetician for 15 years, and from the very beginning I knew I loved sugaring. I saw firsthand how much gentler it was on the skin and how much better the results were compared to traditional waxing. Over the years, I built a loyal clientele and gained a deep appreciation for not just the service itself, but the trust clients place in you when they’re on your table.
Over the last few years my life shifted in a big way. Becoming a single mother and navigating some heavy personal challenges pushed me to finally take a leap I had always dreamed about but never felt quite ready for. I wanted more flexibility for my daughter, more intention in how I spent my time, and a business that truly reflected my values.
That’s how Sugar Me was born. I opened my studio to create a space where people feel comfortable, cared for, and confident in choosing a more natural alternative to waxing. Today, I’m doing work I love, educating clients about their skin, and building something I’m incredibly proud of not just for myself, but for my daughter too.

Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
It definitely hasn’t been a completely smooth road. Like any small business, there’s been a learning curve, especially stepping into ownership and wearing every hat at once. That said, my background as both an esthetician and a manager truly prepared me more than I realized. I already understood client care, operations, scheduling, and what it takes to create a high quality experience from start to finish.
One of the biggest challenges early on was building awareness, but thankfully Greenville was ready for sugaring. There weren’t many options available, and people were actively looking for a better alternative to traditional waxing. I leaned heavily into education, consistency, and getting involved in the local community, whether through networking, collaborations, or events. That hands on approach and a lot of hard work helped Sugar Me grow faster than I ever could have imagined.

Appreciate you sharing that. What should we know about Sugar Me?
Sugar Me is a specialty sugaring studio located in Greenville, SC, focused on providing a gentler, more effective alternative to traditional waxing. I specialize in full body sugaring, with a strong emphasis on Brazilian services and corrective work for sensitive skin, ingrown hairs, and clients who have struggled with irritation from waxing in the past. Sugaring removes hair in the direction of growth, which leads to smoother results, less breakage, and a much more comfortable experience overall.
What sets Sugar Me apart is the level of care, education, and intention behind every appointment. I don’t believe in rushing clients in and out. I take the time to understand their skin, explain the process, and tailor each service to their needs. Many clients come to me nervous or frustrated from past experiences, and my goal is for them to leave feeling comfortable, confident, and informed about their skin and aftercare.
I’m especially proud of the brand I’ve built around trust and results. Sugar Me is known for being welcoming, judgment free, and consistent. I use all natural products and focus heavily on skin health, not just hair removal. Education is a big part of what I do, whether that’s teaching clients how to prevent ingrowns or training other professionals through advanced sugaring education.
What I want readers to know most is that Sugar Me isn’t just about hair removal. It’s about creating a space where people feel cared for, respected, and confident in their skin. Every service, product, and interaction is done with that purpose in mind.

Do you have any advice for those looking to network or find a mentor?
My biggest advice is to be intentional and genuine. Mentorship and networking don’t always come from formal programs. Some of the most valuable guidance I’ve received has come from simply building real relationships with people I respect and admire. Showing up consistently, asking thoughtful questions, and being open to learning goes a long way.
What’s worked best for me is getting involved in my local community. Attending events, collaborating with other small businesses, and supporting fellow entrepreneurs naturally opens doors. I’ve also learned that networking doesn’t have to feel transactional. When you lead with curiosity and a desire to support others, connections tend to grow organically.
