Community Highlights: Meet Jilian Daniel of Poseidon K9

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jilian Daniel.

Hi Jilian, so excited to have you with us today. What can you tell us about your story?
I’ve always loved animals, and solving challenges. After a hugely rewarding and challenging Marine Biology career working aboard fishing vessels in the Bering Sea, I was looking for something a little warmer! I made my way into the world of dog training and worked with Service Dogs for Veterans with various disabilities. From there, I got into rehabilitating Military Working Dogs, and then finally into training pet dogs. It’s been a long, wild ride, but I’ve loved every animal I’ve had the honor of working with!

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
No road worth traveling is smooth! Personally, I’ve had to overcome Impostor Syndrome while operating my own dog training business; but I remember the lives, both human and canine, that I’ve been able to change for the better. That reminds me of all the good that can come from working with these incredible animals.

Thanks – so what else should our readers know about Poseidon K9?
I firmly believe in Quality > Quantity. We intentionally keep our program small and exclusive so our trainers can focus on the dogs entrusted to our care, and the quality of the training the dogs receive.

We all have a different way of looking at and defining success. How do you define success?
Can I make someone’s relationship with their canine best friend better? If so, that’s a success. There is no such thing as perfection when working with animals, but bettering their life makes all the difference.
