Community Highlights: Meet Jamie Azar of Erotic Expressions

Today we’d like to introduce you to Jamie Azar.

Hi Jamie, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
For as long as I can remember, I’ve had a passion for education and learning. I also come from a long line of educators and teachers, so I guess you could say it runs in my blood. Needless to say, that’s probably why I found myself in the public education sphere, well, that and everyone told me I couldn’t do anything with solely an English degree.

I guess I was destined for education. After college, I went straight into teaching high school English, Creative Writing, Journalism. I taught all across the United States and I also spent a year teaching English abroad in Costa Rica.

However, after 10 years something in me shifted. I was teaching from a pre packaged curriculum, reading from a script, and I had lost most of my passion. I often felt disempowered and enraged at the inequities of the public education system. I was in my 13th year and especially post-Covid, things weren’t getting any better. They were banning books in schools and stripping our African American History courses. I gave it one more year as a Literacy Coach, but the passion in me was still dying. Was this really what I was meant to do with the rest of my life? My work started slowly feeling like a prison. I yearned to find passion and empowerment in my work again. So, I started to think outside the box.

I knew I wanted to continue educating, coaching, and mentoring in some way. I also wanted to work for myself, break out of the 9-5, and start living life on my own terms. I decided to research different areas of coaching and after exploring a few programs and paths, discovered one that resonated with me- The Pleasure Psychology and S*xology Certification Program. I had always had a passion for psychology, empowering people to live their most authentic selves, and s*x and s*xuality had always played an integral role in my life. I didn’t even know relationship and intimacy coaches existed, that I could build a life around supporting people in living their most pleasure centric, shame-free lives when it comes to their s*x, s*xuality, and relationships. This program launched me to where I am today and was a catalyst towards taking one of the biggest risks of my life- which was taking a chance on myself.

Today, I am the founder of Erotic Expressions, LLC, my own private coaching practice, where I give people a nonjudgmental, confidential, and safe space to unleash their inner prisons and reclaim their right to pleasure. I help people turn shame off, turn pleasure on, and redefine relationships, s*x, s*uality, and intimacy on their own terms beyond pressure and expectations. I work with individuals and partners of all relationship styles, structures, and constellations. I generally work with folks who are experiencing barriers or blockages to pleasure, s*x, and intimacy relating to past s*xual abuse or trauma, shame, low self-worth, anxiety, or unresolved relational conflicts. I also work with folks who are navigating life transitions such as career changes, divorces, break-ups, uncoupling, as well as other s*xual difficulties and dysfunctions.

In addition to my coaching, I offer monthly workshops, book clubs, I host a s*x-positive relationship panel called Real Talk with the S*xperts and publish monthly articles on my blog and for Los Angeles S*x Therapy (LAST). I also designed a 30-day Partners Course called Awaken Intimacy and I offer group coaching as well.

Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
It has not been a smooth road and of course, there have been some struggles along the way. Leaving a stable career with a predictable paycheck to become a s*x, relationship, and intimacy coach and becoming a founder of my own business, Erotic Expressions LLC, is one of the greatest risks I’ve ever taken. I was no longer in the confines of a predictable system, structure, paycheck. There was no one telling me what to do and when to do it. I had become the sole architect of my reality, which felt at once both enthralling and terrifying. I went months without clients, wondering if I had made the right decision. Plus, what did I know about building a business?

From overcoming imposter syndrome, to breaking out of the confines of my own shame and fear of other people’s reactions to what I was doing (let’s face it— there can be a myriad of assumptions, judgments, and reactions when people hear you’re a s*x coach), to cultivating belief in what I do and in myself have been some of the most transformative chapters of my life. I finally feel aligned in the work that I do, the life I live, and I have the honor and privilege of embracing both the struggle and triumph along the way, as I continue to carve out my unique creative path, create community, and support others in living their most authentic, shame-free, pleasure-centric and joyful lives.

We’ve been impressed with Erotic Expressions, but for folks who might not be as familiar, what can you share with them about what you do and what sets you apart from others?
Erotic Expressions, LLC is my private coaching practice where individuals and partners come to liberate themselves from the prisons of shame, silence, and societal expectation — and reclaim their right to pleasure. Rooted in non judgment, confidentiality, and radical compassion, I provide a safe space for people to explore and redefine their relationships to s*x, intimacy, and self-expression — on their own terms. My work centers on helping clients turn shame off and turn pleasure on, while navigating the complexities of trauma, desire, identity, and change.

I work with people from all walks of life and all relational constellations — monogamous, polyamorous, queer, straight, partnered or solo. Many of my clients come to me facing blocks around pleasure or intimacy tied to past s*xual trauma, anxiety, low self-worth, or unresolved relational wounds. Others are in the midst of major transitions — breakups, divorces, career shifts — and seeking clarity, embodiment, and healing.

Because of my background in education, I bring years of experience in differentiation — meaning each session is uniquely tailored to the individual. I curate resources, track progress through detailed narrative summaries, and offer steady, soul-deep support that’s rooted in empathy and accountability. I believe transformation happens not just in the session, but in the life you build between sessions — and I’m here for all of it.

Outside of private coaching, I lead monthly workshops, book clubs, and RealTalk — a s*x-positive relationship panel. I also publish monthly articles for both my personal blog and Los Angeles S*x Therapy (LAST), offering ongoing education and insight around s*x, love, and liberation.

What I’m most proud of is not just the change I help initiate — it’s the change my clients learn to see in themselves. When a client reclaims their voice, exits an unhealthy relationship, embraces vulnerability, or experiences great s*x without shame — that’s the work. That’s the win. Every small step toward self-trust, authenticity, and pleasure is a celebration, and it’s the deepest honor of my life to walk that path with them.

If you follow me on social media or step into my offerings, you’ll find more than content — you’ll find community. You’ll be met with s*x-positive education, real conversation, and unwavering encouragement to live your most pleasure-centric, shame-free, fully authentic life.

Is there something surprising that you feel even people who know you might not know about?
In addition to being a former English teacher of 13 years, I’m also a former Zumba instructor! Fitness and dance played integral roles in particularly challenging periods of my life and both participating and instructing brought great joy and pleasure to my body, which was deeply healing. I found community through dance abroad when I lived in Costa Rica, and it was also through Zumba where I first experienced the power of hearing firsthand the power of my classes and my magic. Survivors of breast cancer as well as women from all walks of life would tell me “They’d never felt so s*xy in their bodies,” I offered a space for people to let it all go and feel unbridled and alive. These moments also inform the joy I feel in the work I do now as I empower people to enhance pleasure in their bodies and relationships. Not to mention, I still love to dance, and I would love to incorporate this into my work in the future.
