Today we’d like to introduce you to Holly Blocker
Hi Holly, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
My story began in 2016, two years after the unexpected loss of my husband in 2014, which left me as the sole provider for our two young boys, Gavin and Grant. Struggling to make ends meet and living paycheck to paycheck, I yearned for a better life for my children. It was during this challenging time that I decided to pursue my dream of becoming a professionally certified home stager and to trust in the path that God was leading me down.
I took a bold step, resigning from my administrative position to earn my Expert Psychological Home Staging certification in Nashville, TN, from renowned designer and founder, Kristie Barnett. My journey began quickly, as I joined one of the top staging and design companies in Louisville, Kentucky. In 2017, I remarried and, in 2018, our family embarked on a new adventure, relocating to Hilton Head, SC, where we sought a fresh start by the beach.
In Hilton Head, I collaborated with my husband’s renovation company, managing the design, selections, and sales of investment properties. It was an incredible opportunity to combine our skills and vision, but in January 2020, I felt a strong calling to establish my own design company, which I named Blue Palm Interiors. Launching a business during the pandemic posed significant challenges, yet to my surprise, demand surged as clients began to focus on their home environments.
As the pandemic progressed, I faced new hurdles in sourcing furnishings for my clients. In the summer of 2022, a pivotal opportunity arose: the chance to purchase a warehouse of staging furniture. After careful consideration, I chose to pivot, setting aside the design aspect to concentrate on my true passion—home staging. This transition led to rebranding my business as Blue Palm Home Staging and Design.
Over the past two years, I have honed my skills in transforming properties into irresistible homes that captivate potential buyers. Now, after successfully running my staging business, I am excited to expand my horizons further by obtaining a real estate license. This new step will allow me to assist my clients not only in showcasing their homes but also in navigating their property transactions.
Combining creativity, professionalism, and a deep understanding of the real estate market, I bring a unique perspective and personalized touch to every project. Whether staging a home to sell or helping clients find their dream properties, I am dedicated to turning visions into reality and creating inspiring spaces.
Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Starting and running a home staging business can be a rewarding endeavor, but it also comes with its fair share of obstacles and challenges such as: market competition, economic fluctuation, client expectations, legal and insurance issues etc.
Navigating these challenges requires a combination of strategic planning, effective marketing, strong communication skills, and adaptability. Your passion for home staging and your commitment to creating inspiring spaces can help you overcome these obstacles and succeed in your business.
