Community Highlights: Meet Erin Thumann of Eventful Erin

Today we’d like to introduce you to Erin Thumann

Hi Erin, can you start by introducing yourself? We’d love to learn more about how you got to where you are today?
I started my event planning business in 2022, the year after I graduated college. I went through a period of time post grad where I wasn’t sure which direction to go with my life let alone my career. My mom and I would take daily walks and talk about my passions, hobbies, goals, strengths etc. I have always been very creative and knew that I wanted to incorporate that into my daily life. We came to the conclusion my true happiness was derived from entertaining and making events special for people. I’ve basically done that my whole life, but I never thought I would be able to make it a career. I prepped my business model and platform for months before announcing it to the public. I wanted to be a virtual event planner so I could help anyone/anywhere. Since the world became virtual during the Pandemic I felt confident tht i could run a business behind a screen. I didn’t want to limit myself to one type of event, so I help with all. Whether it is a birthday, bachelorette, bridal shower, baby shower, trip itinerary, wedding etc. Through virtual event planning I have found my love for in-person event planning as well. This brought me from Arizona to Charleston South Carolina! I have now been event planning for Eventful Erin for over 2 years and am so lucky to help people every day.

I’m sure it wasn’t obstacle-free, but would you say the journey has been fairly smooth so far?
When working for yourself there is going to be a multitude of struggles. I would say the hardest one to over come was self-doubt. I did not believe in myself in the beginning, but my mom had confidence in me. Once I started to watch my business grow by helping people all around the country I was able to gain confidence in myself. I still struggle with self-doubt but have become better at over coming those negative thoughts. Another struggle is feeling to young compared to other business owners. I used to be insecure about not having previous experience under another company, but someone told me that it is better this way because I do not have to follow a specific route, I am able to create my own. My position is very unique with working social media full time as an influencer and now a business owner. It can be hard to juggle both jobs but both of them bring me so much joy. I think the biggest lesson is not letting your own self-doubt be a roadblock!

Great, so let’s talk business. Can you tell our readers more about what you do and what you think sets you apart from others?
Eventful Erin is a virtual and in-person event planning business owned and ran by Erin Thumann! I have helped with events all over the country through virtual event planning. My portfolio ranges from birthdays, bachelorettes, trip itineraries, baby showers, bridal showers, weddings etc. After moving to Charleston I have been able to grow and help plan in- person and brand events.

I feel I am set apart from others because I am able to add the virtual aspect that not many event planners are able to do. Because I am a full time social media influencer as well, I am able to keep up with trends which helps when planning different events!

I am very proud of working hard and getting to the place where I am at in my career. I have so many goals but am practicing enjoying and appreciating how far I have come. This job has opened me to so many new experiences including moving across the country.

What matters most to you?
What matters most to me is making each event that I help with personal and special. I truly feel each accomplishment, holiday, and day is special so being able to add small touches means the world to me. Since I was young I always loved making small things a big deal and I am proud I have continued to carry that into my business. The quote for my business is “make every day eventful” 🙂
