Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Dr. Tina Ramsay’s journey with CTR Homeschooling has not been without its challenges. Balancing the demands of homeschooling her two children—one with learning difficulties like autism and dyslexia, and the other gifted and talented—presented unique struggles. Navigating these varying needs required extensive patience, adaptability, and a deep commitment to finding the right educational approaches for each child.
In addition to managing her own family’s homeschooling journey, Dr. Tina also faced personal struggles. She battled with feelings of doubt, insecurity, and health issues throughout the beginning of her family’s homeschool experience. In her 20s, she suffered a stroke that left her partially paralyzed with memory loss, which created significant challenges. These health issues continued to affect her, making it difficult at times to maintain a consistent teaching schedule. Dr. Tina had to develop multiple action plans to ensure her children didn’t miss out on the educational process, whether she was feeling well or not. Balancing her health and homeschooling required careful planning, so she could provide for her children’s educational needs during both good and difficult times.
Another major struggle was dealing with feelings of mom guilt. As a homeschooling mom with just one income, Dr. Tina often questioned how to provide the essential educational resources and the simple joys—like extracurricular activities and fun experiences—that children need to grow and thrive.
