Dr. Ericka L. McKnight (Brown) started after an unfortunate experience with purchasing her first home in North Carolina. This experience such as being lied to, deceived and discriminated against, lit a fire in her spirit! After reporting the unprofessional & disappointing conduct of that agent she was awarded damages, his commission and bonuses. Since then, she’s become an advocate by helping middle class buyers and sellers sell or buy properties. As well as providing exceptional customer service and in-depth education. Her passion and gratitude to serve others has opened doors worldwide!
Dr. McKnight (Brown) is the owner of ELM School of Real Estate (first African American female to open up a real estate school in southeastern region), ELM Realty (United States & International) & ELM Developer Group. Dr. McKnight (Brown) is a 22x worldwide bestselling author and course/curriculum creator. Her extraordinary career spans over 22 plus years of experience in the real estate industry, coaching, mentorship, training and as a Graduate Degree Studies-Professor at some of the most prominent colleges worldwide.
Dr. Mcknight’s (Brown) has served as a NC Delegate for former President Joe Biden’s Economic Development board and was recently awarded the Championship Leadership award in London and so much more. Can you talk to us a bit about the challenges and lessons you’ve learned along the way. Looking back would you say it’s been easy or smooth in retrospect?
Great question! I often tell people, success and failure are partners! Allow me to explain, if you never fail how will you know what works in life? Failure teaches you one of two things. How bad do you want it? or Should I move onto something else?
If everything in life was smooth there would be no need for repairs, reformation, renovation, reflection, revamping nor elevated responsibilities. Embrace all challenges and struggles as an opportunity to develop and strengthen your character. Keep your eyes focused on the reward(s),
For example, I was often reminded early in my career that there was better/more qualified real estate agents and schools that own territories in North Carolina. At first, I would get slightly discouraged but competition creates CHAMPIONS and just like everything in life that has competition, may not drive your customer. God would remain me of my own uniqueness and extraordinary gifts and talents. He created me for such a time as this and only God will have the final say!

Absolutely!! I’ve written several books and trained on this topic alone!
I started my businesses with a $100 investment! I used that $100 to buy business cards and apply for my real estate license. I had no idea how this was going to work out, but I had faith! I believed that based upon my disappointing realtor experience God would provide the clients and he did! Presently, that $100 has turned into millions in sales volume and thousands of satisfied customers! (smile) Risk #2-I invested in an international property with a group of individuals. Long story short, we lost our money and the property. I was very upset because my team and diligently did our homework and research, but life happens! I later used this devasting experience to once again, educate others on what NOT to do when buying properties internationally,
