Today we’d like to introduce you to Carl Young.
Hi Carl, so excited to have you on the platform. So before we get into questions about your work-life, maybe you can bring our readers up to speed on your story and how you got to where you are today?
BBQ has been a part of my life since I was a kid. During the summer months we had family BBQ’s almost every weekend!
My love for BBQ continued to grow, which lead me to trying different types of seasonings and BBQ sauces, looking for a distinct flavor. I didn’t find what I was looking for so I decided to create my own. I would give BBQ I cooked, using the seasoning and sauce I created, to family and friends. A few people begin to ask us for the recipe for the sauce. I wouldn’t share the recipe but I would make them some to use. After receiving encouragement from several people, we decided to bottle the sauce and sell at our local farmers market, we sold out!! We have been selling our sauces and rubs for the past 7 years. And now we have our own Food Trailer selling our BBQ!
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
There are always challenges. Most of the challenges were knowing all the rules and regulations when we began. We have had some great folks help us along the way. DHEC, SCDA, City Admins, and people we have meet along the way, have been great with helping us by providing answers to our questions which ensures we are compliant.
