Today we’d like to introduce you to Angel Strong.
Hi Angel, please kick things off for us with an introduction to yourself and your story.
Initially, my career path was driven toward Physical Therapy. I knew I wanted to do something in helping people reach their overall health and fitness goals for optimal performance and recovery. My first job after college was as a Rehabilitation Technician at a Rehabilitation Center that offered Speech, Respiratory, Occupational, & Physical Therapies but no Massage Therapy. I would continuously hear the complaints of patients/clients in pain pre/post therapy inquiring about a Massage. I simply felt there needed to change.
I thought to myself, there has to be some way to incorporate Massage Therapy into these types of practices. After discussing my thoughts & ideas with a few of the practitioners they all agreed that it was a great asset & would be a great idea to incorporate both in treatment sessions. I randomly received an invitation in the mail shortly after thinking about my career change to a new Massage Therapy program beginning that year. Meanwhile, I was already on the list to start Physical Therapy. My thoughts were to accept the invitation & complete school while awaiting my acceptance into physical therapy school. I already had a bachelor’s in Exercise & Sport Science so I was able to jump right in & start the program. I absolutely fell in love.
Massage Therapy was it!! It was what these facilities were missing the entire time. A therapy that’s so overlooked in the health & wellness industry but so important to the body & its everyday maintenance. Now, I always thought Massage was simply for stress relief. I was wrong. Once I completed my Massage program, I quickly began my Physical Therapy program & discontinued it after the 1st semester. After experiencing massage I was no longer interested in PT. My career as a Massage Therapist was here.
Furthermore, Medical Massage is my area of expertise. Being able to incorporate everything I’ve learned in both fields to heal & restore muscle at the same time. Leaving people relaxed, renewed, & revived.
Alright, so let’s dig a little deeper into the story – has it been an easy path overall, and if not, what were the challenges you’ve had to overcome?
In the beginning, it was a pretty smooth road. I didn’t start off in my own practice. I worked at a franchise for a couple of years. Taking time to perfect my craft, network, & build relationships. Later down the road, I relocated. I transferred locations & still continue to build & perfect my craft. However, starting my business was tough because I was in a new area with little to no connections.
Building my business was becoming stressful. I later quit Massage Therapy & became a Full-Time Exercise Physiologist while massaging on the side. After losing my grandfather in 2020, I remembered his words to me when I first started Massage. I knew that’s what he wanted for me & he knew that if I kept going I’d be where I wanted to be. So I recently quit Exercise Physiology & now here I am. I’m back at full throttle and ready to take on every obstacle, challenge, & setback.
