Today we’d like to introduce you to Amber Bonner
Amber , we appreciate you taking the time to share your story with us today. Where does your story begin?
I’ve always had a passion to make people feel beautiful in their own skin from a young age. I started taking cosmetology in high school in 11th grade that was offered at vocational school linked to my high school. For the next two years I flourished into doing hair and makeup. I also assisted a hair dresser those two years at a salon in Spartanburg. This allowed me to gain as much knowledge as I could before school ended. I then graduated from high school with my cosmetology license. At 18 I got offered a job at a salon in Inman that I had gone to since I was just 5 years old. I worked part time while also getting my associates degree at SMC. Once I finished school I dove in full time at the salon and loved every bit of it. Now I’m 24 years old and still work at studio 18 , it feels like home. Every day is a challenge but I continue to educate and learn and deliver as much as I possibly can. I’ve grown such an amazing clientele and salon family over the years and only hope there will be more to come.
We all face challenges, but looking back would you describe it as a relatively smooth road?
I learned that after hair school you kind of just get thrown into the hair industry. And even though I did assist at a salon the two years I was in school, there was still challenges and new things to learn. It’s all about being your true self and never comparing your work ,because everyone is different.
As you know, we’re big fans of Studio 18. For our readers who might not be as familiar what can you tell them about the brand?
I specialize or dabble into a little bit of everything as I like to offer as much as I can to my clients to feel themselves. I specialize in color and cuts but as well offer professional makeup, spray tans, special event hair and more.
If you had to, what characteristic of yours would you give the most credit to?
Characteristics that I feel are most important are staying humble, you never know how a situation is going to unfold. I’m thankful everyday for this profession. For having mentors along the way and supportive friends and family. I have so many personalities that sit in my chair. It is so important to not be judgmental and to truly hear your clients out for how they wanna feel during and after their session.
